WE Hi Capa mag release to WE single stack
Hey guys,
I have a WE 1911 single stack and a WE Hi Capa. The WE 1911 has a broken mag catch so I can't use it while the hi capa is perfectly a-ok. I figured out that every part on the hi capa is compatible (slide, bushings, spring rod, hammer, trigger, etc) except for the mag release. I'm wondering if anyone would know how I could modify the hi capa mag release to fit the 1911, so i can take all the good parts and repair my single stack. Thanks a bunch for any info. |

Wouldn't work. It would be too wide since they are single stack and double stack grips. And they're differently designed grips.

Actually it will work!
I figured it out, the piece fits perfectly but as you said the original hi capa grip is too wide so the release cannot catch the groove on the mag. I figure all I need to do is either find a little plastic piece and glue it on or take epoxy puddy and make an extension to the metal. Last edited by Combine; February 11th, 2010 at 19:37.. |

No, it won't work. I tried when I still had my Socom Gear. TM Hi-Capa mag catch does shit nothing when inserted. Filling won't work either - but you can always try (and fail).
Your best bet is to contact WE directly (they will respond in under 5 days, in my experience). They can and will send you a replacement mag catch (they're like $15 USD or something like that) via non-UPS. Edit: adding plastic will do shit nothing also, plastic will wear down like every other old-generation WE pot metal part, but just even faster, if that's even possible. Sorry to burst you bubble, man. |

Sorry to say that you may be SOL on this.
I sold my WE1911 to a friend and right there and then, the mag catch busted in half. Tried to epoxy it back but it wouldn't hold, the pot metal was too cheap. He bought a TM1911 mag catch and took a dremel to fit it but it won't catch the WE mags. I bought him a TM1911 mag and it still won't work. There doesn't seem to be any way out of it as it doesn't seem that anyone does an aftermarket part, you'll have to stick with WE replacement part and watch them break by the dozen. I haven't searched on here for a while as my info is almost a year out dated. I don't know if anyone has found a solution to this problem.
