I'm wondering the same. Currently, I keep 'em. Got around 8 stashed away in various places... now, only if I could find them all, I could do a bottle return on them (do recycling places even pay for propane bottles, like they would for pop cans?).

If you let all the gas out of them you can toss them in the blue box. Just go outside press the pin to let all the gas out and chuck it in the blue box. I went to the landfill to drop them off once and they guy behind the counter said that is what you do. But then keep in mind that I am in mississauga.

Well, I just did a simple math:
Canadian tire sells Coleman Propane (better than Rona, oh god that one almost knock me out) at about $5 each. Each of em is about 1lb. A standard 20lb one cost: $50 for a complete new tank, $35 for a exchange where you trade a tank for a filled one. (Costco is cheaper from what I remembered) Now we know 20lb propane aint gonna give out 20lb of liquid, more like 19 so basically $2.63/lb for new or $1.85 for exchange. Now if you buy a new disposable one everytime, it'll be $5/lb. In another words, I guess we can SAVE EVEN more with refill of disposable one. Only thing you need to know is check for leaks on the bottoms, use silicon oil or soap + water to check. If you don't you could really kill yourself as 1lb of liquid propane is quite a bit. The refill adapter can be bought at eBay, and other online sites. I check Home Depot, and Canadian Tire, the guy think Im crazy when I asked them about it. I'm just wondering in this thread if any body actually refill their propane bottle |

If I owned a pball field that hosted AS events, I'd invest in one of these.

the empties are NOT supposed to go to land fill or the recycle bin. There are hazardous and solid waste disposal sites (in Toronto... not sure about elsewhere) that you're to bring them to. I've also read somewhere, that you can drop them off at some Can. Tire stores but i haven't tried yet.

I work at Canadian Tire, I know they won't take paint or batteries, I'm convinced they won't take propane bottles either. You might want to try Rona instead, I heard they take those.

Why is it that everywhere I try and order that Propane Coupler, I get told they cannot ship to Canada?
Has the CBSA restricted propane accessories too? |
