High ROF gun, for under $200?
Hello ASC, I'm not quite new to airsoft, but I'm new to High end airsoft. I started playing outdoor airsoft at the begining of this summer with a Walmart M4. I got used to the sport, and just this past weekend I got myself an ICS M4A1. I also recently acquired a Crosman AK74u for very cheap, and have decided to start working on it and try to make it a very high ROF gun(side project; very quiet).
The MSRP of this gun is about $150, and since I would like to keep this a low cost project, I would like to spend only another $50 on it. So far, I have; "swiss cheesed" the piston, short stroked the piston, added a M90 spring, and removed 2 teeth from the rear end of the piston. What would all of you recommend I do next(to both increase the ROF, and silence the gun)? BTW, I would like to keep the FPS above 280, but this will be used solely as a CQB gun as I use my M4 for outdoor/long range shooting. Last edited by rokor; November 17th, 2009 at 23:07.. A 9.6v battery is pretty much the only thing you can do for $50.
A higher ROF serously increases the stresses on the mechbox's internal components (and the shell itself), so you generally need to do a lot of supporting upgrades to run a high ROF rig. Of course, when a new player wants high ROF, my question is always "why?" Oh, and I'm referring to the ICS gun. Any "upgrades" you do to a walmart or crossman gun will more than likely cause it to explode.

I will soon be getting a higher voltage and MaH Battery from a friend for free(brand new) so the battery part is covered. And why? I just thought it would be a fun project. I fully grasp the idea that a higher ROF will not make me a better player, nor will a quieter gun. I am simply doing this as an experiment, and I'm not trying to proove anything from its results.

Buy a sorbo pad from airsoftparts.ca
You gun will thank you, and it will make it much quieter

A 9.6 volt battery, a set of high speed gears with properly toothed piston to match, a sector clip, An angel silent head piston if you can find one, but only an angel I find the others don't really make much of a difference and maybe a shock transfer system from : http://www.v2fix.com/. Its all I can really recommend.
I once built a high speed speed up, it was a little bit of overkill. Systema highspeed gears, high speed motor, 9.6volt 500mah battery and a modify m100 spring. I was able fire off an entire 68 round TM locap in less than 2 seconds, however most of the time the magazines would not be able to keep up with the feed. I believe the rounds per second were somewhere in the area or 35+. Although that was just a rough estimate at the time. Funny thing about that project, one of the systema gears managed to chip and lose 5 teeth before the TM piston even had a scratch on it.

I think I'm going to order myself a set of that sorbo pad stuff as soon as the site comes back up. And I thought a sector chip just delays the movement of the tappet plate for when you have feeding problems? And would you recommend any specific gear sets that would run me less than $40? The cheapest I was able to find ran for $45.

No quality high speed gears will even run you less than $80. I don't know what you found for $45. But they are probably crap. Anything cheaper will be even worse. You WILL need a sector chip if you want your gun to feed all the BBs in a high RoF setup. Guaranteed.

Not Eye Safe, Pretty Boy Maximus on the field take his picture!

Just get an 11.1v LiPo, charge/balance it, and hold down your trigger for about 2 and a half seconds

I will most likely not be using this for any skirmishes or games I will be playing, so I just want to see how far I can push this thing for as cheap as possible. Are any of you aware of any other possible mods I can do to this gun, because I would rather put the money into my M4 if nothing else is possible for under $50.

You can probly omit the sector clip, I was just thinking that it would help with the feeding issues, when really it wouldn't at all, nothing helps at those speeds.

Re-wire the thing with very high quality wire that's as thick as possible and eliminate as many connector points as possible (Try to make the only one the one that connects to the battery)
But -- All this stuff is fairly useless... That gun barely lasts a year in its stock form.. I'm not even sure if it's compatible with anything else. |
