What hearing protection do you use and why?
We are a specialist supplier in hearing protection headsets (mainly MSA Sordin and Peltor) and would be really interested to know from all of you what hearing protection you use (make/model) and why.
Thanks all, Steve |

None for airsoft, no point.
For real steel, foam earplugs. |

Does anyone use ear protection for airsoft? Anyone? I'm not talking about replica Peltors/Comtacs, etc... I mean, someone who thinks "man, this stuff is really loud and I'm going to damage my hearing" while shooting airsoft?

Yeah, for airsoft the sound levels are nowhere near enough to cause hearing damage. You may see someone using headsets with a boom mic but heairng protection is hardly the reason they wear them.
But there might be a couple others who may be interested in your products here as there are a bunch of real steel shooters on this board. Have you tried www.canadiangunnutz.com yet? |

I know two people who wished they had some when I popped a highly charged 40mm nade (read high as in 800-900psi) at opfor and their head just happened to come too close.
only one of the two times was a kill though. lol |

I have supplied MSA Sordin ear muffs to guys who do Airsoft with an RSM (remote speaker mic) that connects to their two way radios. You can connect the audio from the RSM directly into the headset. Is this taking Airsoft to the extreme? I haven't tried Airsoft yet so I just don't know.

my only issue of using ear muffs is that you lose a lot of the ambient sounds that you require on the field to distinguish where opfor is. since airsoft guns are relatively quiet across the field, you have to listen for the rounds hitting around you. |

In short, I don't know many airsoft players using hearing protection, however there are a bunch who uses real steel communication systems.
