Adjustable fps?

I guess this is more for the manufacturers, but I was wondering why airsoft guns haven't developed some adjustability to main spring tension to make velocity adjustments around 0-50fps. This would allow the gun to run at maximum while maintaining safe velocity's no matter the weather or bb's you shoot and you could use the same gun inside and out. Just a thought.

I honestly don't think that is even possible... Gearboxes simply arent built that way i'm afraid. If anything, there are AEGs that can have their springs swapped out without much hassle. but that can also bring up the trouble a lot of paintballers experience.

Say you had an AEG with this Adjustable spring or whatever. You upgrade it so its minimum FPS is the maximum fps for the feild limit. The user could easily just chrono like that, walk in, and turn the FPS up to exploit the restriction.

If this was implemented somehow, I think it would just make things too complicated for its own good.

because its impossible without making the gun looking deformed in one way or another. Common sense

gas is easier and dont need so much space.

because you'll always get someone who will chrony at the maximum fps while on the weakest spring setting, then they'll crank it up when they hit the field.

pballers do this all the time. heck I did this once with my tippmann 98c when playing a private friends only game with guys who had ramped up electric 100rps markers. all you needed was a nickle or your thumb nail.

there is a way to do it with AEG's but it would mean redesigning the spring guide and getting a whole different range of springs to use. with V2's at least, it could be possible but not really worth the time since you'd still have to break down half the gun in most applications.

all it needs is a screw to put pressure or take pressure away from the mainspring that is easy to do without deforming the gun. Strelok has got it though, you could chrono safe, then crank it up on the field and that wouldn't be cool. Thanks guys.

And how would you suggest that be done? Do you have any experience with the inner workings of an AEG?

Uh, guys, adjustable or quick change spring isn't that hard to implement, it's just uncommon. All ARES AEGs have quick spring change, so does the new TM M4 with a little modification, and the ICS L85 has both quick spring change and incremental power adjustment.

As for people abusing the system... Some people will abuse anything and everything. Letting people like that stand in the way of good innovations is silly.

One thing to consider is the amount of travel the spring/piston has. If you move the spring guide forward (more tension, more power), the front of it will impact the piston, causing the teeth of the piston and/or gears to rip apart. Moving it back to a lower power setting wouldn't damage anything, but you'd need a special mechbox to be able to do that. Best case scenario would be similiar to what the CA/Star M249 has, a removable spring guide so you can swap springs in and out quickly, but as said above, it'd give assholes another means of plying their trade, swapping to heavier springs after chronying.

I think it would be easier to make something to control the airflow, and adjust fps that way (not sure how it would be done though).

Literally just need an inner barrel with a series of holes to be plugged/unplugged to raise and lower the fps. A sliding sleeve would do it.

Lol that sounds easier than adjusting the spring

although it could reduce accuracy.

could also put something on the hopup that's adjustable from the mag well

Barely reduce accuracy. Lol, good example is my MP5A5, a couple years ago I had it shooting 360fps, basic upgrades, spring guide, spring and clear Guarder hop up rubber, I could get about 4ft groups at 200ft shooting 0.28g BBs................. stock TM inner barrel and 229mm long. Cheapest way to increase range and accuracy is to increase BB weight, hands down. I'll even use 0.25g to 0.28g BBs in a stock TM AEG, simply because of the benefit of range and accuracy (I'm also the guy that used 0.43g BBs in my KSC G19 shooting 340fps w/0.20g BBs, and got a couple 120ft+ kills at an outdoor game.)

In my experience, don't ever modify the airflow of an AEG. The airflow is like a micro car made from tiny untreated titanium pieces. It works great until someone touches it.
There's 2 great ways to change FPS, quick spring swapping like on the STAR M4s and CA249, and gas regulators on gas guns. That's about it and there aint nothin wrong with that! lol

Nothing wrong with that at all, is why I have two MP5s, one set up for 370fps, one set for around 300fps.

The simplest solution is the best. Adjustable spring length? Anyway, if you want to buy it, here is the review
