Low Cap / High Cap
This has to be the Dumbest Question that I will ever ask!!
Does it really matter to U (experience Players).. if a Newbie/Non-Newbie plays with High Cap Mags? Thanks.

if you are at a mil sim game some guys will look down appon hi caps, i have no beef with them
some games will have regulations as far as mags you carry, check your local field for rules

Depends on the player. Some don't like it, some don't really care. It's all about personal preference on which to choose, but if your really concered, contact some people that will actually be playing with you.

The thing I hate about newbies with highcaps is they often just hose with them. Highcaps don't encourage any kind of trigger control or anything.

Most Mil sim game hosts will not only have a ammo restiction but a High cap restriction aswell to maintain the realism eg. Border Wars 3 No HIGH CAPS. If you start depending on a 300+ round mag and never reload in the field or under fire you will probably have a hard time. Reloading quickly and smoothly is an art and requires practice, and it sucks getting shot because your fumbling around with your mags.

Most new players will only have one or two mags, usually hicaps. That's acceptable since most new players are just getting into the sport and either haven't got mid/low caps or don't have the cash yet.
In milsims organizers generally want you to use low/mid caps, but for skirmishes it's usually anything goes. |

Low caps and tape. You can flip the mags around as fast as you can wind the highcaps. With practice that is.

It's usually acceptable for newbies to use them since they often can't afford better, but hicaps are looked down upon by many serious players so you should get low or realcaps as soon as you can.

I LOVE it when newbs play with hi-cap mags.
When you sound like a can full of marbles it's easier to find and hit you.

Its also good to note that Hi-caps make a ton of noise (the bb's rattle around quite a bit inside), which is bad for certain CQB and outdoor gaming. Mid and Low-caps don't have this problem obviously.

Respect the game organizer and the game he/she's setting up fo you. They put in a lot of time and effort to make arrangements and if they didn't step up...you wouldn't have somewhere to play.
Some games have very specific ammo/mag restrictions. They tend to be more scenario/mil-sim type games. Keeping track of your ammo/supplies and being able to operate your weapons properly are all part of the fun. Often, there's a whole lot of running/creeping around...with brief but intense firefights. You really start to pucker up after surviving a couple of firefights...and are down to just your last mag and whatever's left in your rifle... Other games are more "fun skirmishes". One team starts in one spot...the other starts in another...both teams rush towards each other in straight elimination, "take the hill", attack&defend, etc.... Lots of shooting. Reload freely during/after each skirmish. Most of those don't really care about hicaps or not...but confirm with the game organizer if in doubt. When you take a look at 8-10 mid caps (which can be loaded short to 33-35 rounds for "real cap"....or jammed full to 90-120 rounds)....you've got 240-300 real cap shots and/or 720-1200 rounds mid cap. On the higher end...that's a lot of rounds on tap....all accessible with 8-10 simple mag changes. Best of both worlds. A lot of guys eventually gravitate towards the ammo-limited games...others don't....some enjoy both evenly. To each their own...it's all for fun and good times with your buddies in the end. (big theoretical generalizations coming up...just for emphasis, not for nit-picking!!!) Essentially all AEG's on the field perform the same the range difference between a rifle and a SAW are pretty slim. Short rifles like the G36C and MP5 might give up a bit with longer range accuracy in comparison....but essentially for airsoft ranges, they're pretty close (we're talking differences in 10's of feet). A 0.20g bb shooting out at 400fps out of an M4 is just the same (if not more accurate) than a 0.20g bb shooting out 400fps out of a SAW. What ammo restrictions do is to prevent every rifle on the field from being turned into a SAW. You can surely rip off a solid 30rd burst from your rifle...but you're going to be out of ammo and out of the fight (which pisses off your teammates to no end!) pretty quick. It forces breaks in the firefight while guys reload, cover their teammates, etc....and allows for guys to move to better positions and apply some tactics. Can't acheive that on the field with hi-cap mags....you've got 300-500rnds on tap! Personally...games stop being fun when there's non-stop streams of BBs being exchanged and everyone is pinned down. |

What are the approx numbers of BBs for a Low/Mid/Hi cap ?
|
|
June 9th, 2009, 09:44 | #13 |
Low caps are often between 50-70 BBs (AK's are 70 BBs, MP5 are 50 I think)
Mid caps are 90-120. (Ak are 110-120 I think and my MP5's are 90 BBs). These are rough numbers but it gives you a relative idea (I don't know all the different AEGs). You could say as a rule of thumb that mid caps have 75-100% more BB then their low caps counterparts. Hope it helps!

Realcap = 20-30 rounds.
Lowcap = 50-70 rounds. Midcap = 100-120 rounds. Hicap = 200-600 rounds. Drum/Cmag = 1500-5000 rounds. The numbers differ depending on both the gun (especially for hicaps) and the manufacturer of the mags. As you can imagine, a hollow AK47 mag could hold a hellofa lot more rounds then a hollow mp5 mag. Drum/Cmags are usually electrically wound. People may dislike hicaps, but if you bring out a drum/Cmag they're going to hate you. The exception of course being SAW's.

Nope..doesn't matter, as long as you stick to the ammo limits imposed by the game admin. We all have to start somewhere.
