Airsoft in Winter

This isn't off topic from airsoft, but I didn't know where else to put this so I decided upon here.

Basically, i'm wondering how people play airsoft in winter(I know about xtreme tactics, but, yes i'm still 2 months away from sixteen). I have a huge yard, over ten acres, and we don't use it for anything, but it is amazing for big games of airsoft. I have been aching to play ever since the snow fell, but its been too cold, so i'm wondering how people stay warm, but still feel the bbs hit them? And what kind of guns work winter. I would be willing to play with jackets and snow pants on, but without fully automatic guns you won't really here a bb hit you, it could just as easily be you brushing up against a twig. And I don't want to risk dropping my AK in the snow, with it being electric and all I would expect it to not work well with snow.

I also think it would be sweet to play in winter as you can make awesome bunkers out of snow...it'd be really fun IMO.

Yep, and if they don't call it, keep shooting them. They'll hear it eventually. It's the same problem as wearing a full CIRAS with fake plates: You really think they feel bb's through that?

You can probably hear BB hits MORE during the winter, due to everything being frozen and crisp.

Yea well maybe i'll give it a shot. I think I heard somewhere that gas guns don't work well in winter, which basically leaves me with springs, is that true?

and that's worse then playing in hot humid weather or in a rain storm?

Yeah, AEG's work fine in the rain, you just have to clean the shit out of them afterwards.

Yes. They're called AEG's.

One thing about winter, those accidental hits to ears or the face in general suck. Luckily they are few and far between.

But if you are wearing gloves that even allow for some semblance of gun control (ie thin gloves) getting shot in the frozen hand really freaking hurts!

My L96 works pretty well in the snow

@coachster: I've played in rainy storms, just not with an AEG


I thought that water was really bad for them and if it got inside the gun you could wreck it.

Water actually isn't that bad for AEG's at all.

more so cleaning out the sand and mud that comes with the down pour on most fields.

rains actually worse then snow. water tends to want to flow through any opening and that's where you could see a potential electrical issue. but that would take a heck of a lot of water. snow on the other had, cannot get through those opening quite so easily. also, if it's cold enough, it won't melt making it easy to clean out in the event any gets in. just don't take it into the house and let it warm up before cleaning.

Anything colder than -10C starts to affect most AEGs like pistons shattering, Hop ups not working properly,ect. Winter games are definatly different I played at Operation: Black Mamba (May 4th 2008) here in Manitoba and it started snowing at the begining of the game and didn't stop, everything was blanketed with snow but wasn't too cold.
