Mr. Ajak was arrested the same day. He is charged with attempted murder, robbery with an imitation weapon, possession of stolen property, carrying an imitation weapon, using an imitation firearm in an indictable offence and two breaches of recognizance.
Those two are the same crime... Or rather, using an imitation firearm in an indictable offence is what robbery and attempted murder charges imply.

The article was a bit hard to read. The writing was disjointed and jumped around without properly introducing the victim, alleged assaulter etc.

yeah it was pretty badly written, but i'm kind of losing hope for any journalistic integrity in canada. our news media is going the way of FOX news.

the winnipeg free press, one of the oldest news publications in canada, used to be pretty good. i was happy with their articles, and now they are utter trash. all i hear about is Native crime and how kids in foster care keep dying cause the parents dont give a shit. there you have it, a persistant summary of the freep, week after week.

LOL'd #1 : "he said he knew something was terribly wrong when the man in his passenger seat pulled a shotgun from his pants."

LOL'd #2: "After making a stop, he said the man in the passenger seat removed a two-piece shotgun from his pants and assembled it in front of him."

Pants should be banned, or at the very least restricted.

What the hell was that article talking about? Is there some background story behind it? Is it an ongoing case? It seemed pretty disjointed and a lot of the story seemed to be missing.

I'm sure my 15 year old brother could write a better story than that (and for a quarter of the price).

EDIT: It seems like I was reading the second page.... OP please change the link to direct to the first page.

actually no. One is federal offence under c-68 and the other is under provincial crimial offence..... So they can charge him under both laws.

a bit like being charged with murder with a deadly weapon and then be charged with unlawfull distcharge of a fiream, careless storage blablabli, blablabla....

Correct me if I'm wrong but that also means that there is a minimum jail time sentence in a weapons related offence such as this correct?

Actually, I think we're both wrong. Missed an "other than" in CCC s.85(1). So yes, apparently they can charge him with s. 239 (attempted murder), s. 344 (robbery) and s. 85(1) (using imitation firearm in commission of offence) all at the same time and have nothing overlapping. My bad.

Just for using an imitation firearm is 1-14 years.

G'day,

The article does not say there was an immitation firearm used. Rather, that since they did not recover the shotgun it is easier to prove an immitation firearms offence so that's the charges. No effect or relevance to airsoft there. Other than that it is easier for police to prosecute replica charges than real steel charges. Why take actual dangerous items off the street when you can cut down on the number of toys, neh? d:
