Canadian dollar drop and airsoft prices
I have had many inquiries as have other retailers as to the effect on the Canadian dollar drop and the effect on Airsoft prices this side of the border.
Quite simply the dollar is now worth about 73 cents (average people never get the posted rate) a year ago the dollar was at par. Prices for all GBB's / and AEG's are going up, likely by about 20-25%. What does the future hold, well as long as the oil is low the Canadian dollar is staying low. Most retailer pay U.S. street prices for AEG's: An AEG that costs $400 U.S. is now over $550.00 Canadian, without any Mark up or shipping costs whatsoever. Prices are still better than years ago, but the trend is certainly for higher prices. Last edited by mopic; November 2nd, 2008 at 11:58.. |

yup unfortunately I checked the possible prices I can charge and its going to suck. Not only are items outside of Canada roughly 30% more expensive, don't forget that foreign shipping costs also have to be paid in foreign currencies making that part all that much more expensive now too.

Actually the situation is even worse for Japan origin products. The JPY has gained 35.5% on the CAD (mid market rate). A lot of players holding their breath for a new recoil series TM M4 will be taking quite an exchange hit.

It's all good. It'll take more than 30% to stop me from buying. Mopic, expect an email from me shortly in regards to a GBB!

For the first time in a long time, Hong Kong banks are also adjusting their fixed rate against the US Dollar. That's how bad the economy is looking.
I'm also trying to keep prices as they were for the past several months since we hit par, but on all current preorders and on newer inventory, I can't help but charge more. It's going to suck for a bit. ... well... we could think more positive and just be glad we had those several months of ease on our wallets and now we're just heading back towards "normal" |
