Silicon Oil Alternative
Is silicon oil the only thing that won't harm airsoft guns? What about vegetable oil, etc?

White lithium grease can be used where there's no rubber seals (it eats away at them).

Lithium grease do not attack rubber. Only the ones in aerosol form do, and it is because of the propulsion gas that is left in suspension in the grease. These are petrol byproducts.
At the price of silicon oil, why not use that. They make silicon oil especially made for bearings, bushing, slides (ie. piston/mechbox) and o-rings. Lithium or ceramic grease is good for gears. Go to a hobby shop and grab some high weight (10K or so) for the piston head, and some Trinity super light oil (ak Royal Oil) for bearings and bushings. Then get some ceramic grease (I use Tamiya Ceramic gear grease) for the gears. That will cost you about 15$ and it will last for over 10 years. I have yet to buy some more. |

I know that CRC silicone oil has acetone as a propellent (and it's doing strange things to my plastic cleaning rod). Is the stuff in the link or the CA silicone safe? Thanks.

It should, but again... Spray.
I don't get why you want a spray. It just makes the oil flow everywhere. Just get some hobby shock/diff. oil. Get that for piston head: http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=ASC5420 Get that for bushings: http://www.teamtrinity.com/shop/item.asp?item=4051 Get that for gears: http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...rodID=TAM87025 Simple as that. You don't have to look any further. That is all you need. |
