Both Elephant Type 89 review

Hi guys - I saw a short TM Type 89 thread on the forum, but nothing in-depth or anything about the BE clone, so thought I'd pop some stuff up...

In short the BE Type 89 is a straight clone of the TM Type 89, which in turn is a replica of the Japanese Defense Forces's main infantry assault rifle.

The real steel version is a variation on the old Armalite AR18, but it kinda looks similar to the FN FNC. Like the FNC the Type 89 has a rather nifty 3-round burst feature, and this is replicated on the AEG version.

But in short, the BE clone is rather nice AEG for the money. It's pretty cool looking, is in full metal - and the plastic furniture has a nice rubberized texture (like the TM Beta Spetz).

General finish is a bit flakey (the flat black painted finish scratches very easily) but, otherwise, the construction is OK.

The 3-round burst feature is excellent - but I do have some issues with the quality of the trigger mechanism (see my full review). Other small niggles aren't really valid as they are things that are wrong with the design of the real Type 89...

Some of you may not like the fact that this AEG uses a stick battery - and that it is choosy which stick it takes (7 cell and not 8 cell stick only).

Anyroads - for what we term as 'cheapsoft' here in the UK - the AEG isn't bad at all, if you fancy something a little difference.

I give it 7/10

wow. i hate be crap. but hey, looks like they might be getting better. i saw a thread about the be type 89 on another forum and they thought it was good. i wonder how it performs and how reliable itll be. maybe in the near future be's might be the new cymas and actually worth gettting and putting work into

...btw what does "niggles" mean exactly?

Its probably a UK slang term.

As long as you keep the "L" in it then its fine
