Thoughts on sights

I noticed that in his post on recommended/not recommended upgrades, Greylocks mentioned that scopes (for sighting) were not necessary. This leads me to a question... :-)

When I started to play paintball, I dropped a pretty little Adco red dot on my autococker. While it looked really neat, I soon discovered that the accuracy and distance of a paintball gun were not enough to truly utilize the sight! Now I'm 'investigating' (sic) playing airsoft, and I'm wondering if the Adco can finally be used. The velocities and distances involved in airsoft vs. those in paintball make me think possibly yes, but I was wondering what folk's opinions were...

IMO the sight would have a better use in airsoft

All last season I used a AR 4x20 scope, loved it, easier to sight other players atleast, track bb paths, ect... my SPR is upgraded for range sure, makes it practical compared to a CQB gun. I now have a 6x32 scope, played first game with it today and really like it, have to spend some time sighting it up for my bb's, otherwise it rocked.

I +1 a scope if its practicable.

I made a 200 foot shot with a stock TM because of the Elcan I was using.

+1 for magnification

i use a RDS in paintball and it works perfectly. I have deadly accuracy. In airsoft, you can use a RDS to great effect, or a scope with variable magnification from 1-4x. that being said, 4x is pushing it and should only realy be used if you want to be super 1337 sniper.

A red dot sight is a good choice for airsoft, and will work a lot better than paintball due to both the increased range and better accuracy of airsoft guns.

Generally, low magnification is best. 1-4x is pretty much the range of useful optics for airsoft. Anything beyond 4 x is just too much for the range of the gun except in some instances with a powerful sniper rifle.

I played for the first time with a x4 scope on a stock GSPEC last summer, man it was amazing, it really helps with target ID etc. got two kills with it.
