How does it work?

Does it fire a shell that releases BBs after a certain time with a time fuse? Does it just launch a big bunch of BBs like a shotgun into the air?

Building one would be fairly straight forward. Getting one to consistently put rounds on target is another matter. Then there is the question of building a round effective enough to have a signifigant impact on game dynamics.

Having said all that, if you could pull it off it would change the game immensly. It's tactical value would be profound once you incorporated it into the overall mechanics of your team.

Give it a try, if your succesfull and the legal questions on importation could be overcome I'd say there is a market for it. Don't let nay-sayers curb your enthusiasm.

Not really I don't think. A lot less BB's, and less powerful, and it isn't full coverage.

Well one of our local airsofters made a mortar that launched tennis balls some considerable distance. We used it to take out an airsoft 50cal that the same guy had built. It was consistenet as it was running off an air compressor and he could bracket with assistance or alone if he had line of sight.

A mortar would lend itself to an assaulting force to dig out dug in troops. Alternatively used defensively on assaulting troops. Works great in mature forests with open tree canopies.

If I could build one, i would find a way to employ it!

Been there, done that, 650 foot range at 60 PSI, takes 20 seconds to charge with a bike pump. AND it uses non-explosive eco-friendly air as a propellant.

There in lies the problem. 20 Seconds between rounds is only usefull against immobile targets. Make a system capable of dropping one round every 5 seconds and the mortar becomes usefull against a number or possible targets.

Yeah it's a tall order but if your planning on having people buy one then there has to be a practical application for the weapon system.

Don't get me wrong I like the idea, it's just that a lot of bugs need to be worked out.

20 seconds for one person, takes 8 seconds for two trained people, and 2-3 seconds with a tank of compressed air lol
The air volume you need to get that kind of range is way more than a propane or CO2 bottle could sustain. And we HAVE used it in combat, the relatively slow charging time isn't so significant when you can suppress targets 650 feet away

G'day,

Is the projectile a football, tennis ball, cup O BBs that bursts on impact, sabot that launches a cloud of BBs from the muzzle or all of the above?
