is lube so important? or i did something wrong??
it goes like this
i signed up a game this saturday. so i decide to take my bar-10 sniper rifle with me. i asked the host about the fps limit and chrony it, says 388-391 with .25 stable in 10 shots. since the limit is 450 with .20, i think it;s decent. Then i think, hey, maybe i should lube it, since i had never lubed it. so i lubed the cylinder and the barrel with light weight silicone oil. after that i say, maybe it will improve a bit, so i chrono 10 shot again with hopup at the some position, 427-429 with .25 now.... what the fk??? i think i am over limit now.... but my question is is lube so important? or i did something wrong?? You blew oil all over the inside of your hop up rubber and inner barrel. Use grease only in the cylinder on any gun, not oil (unless a spring pistol).
Hop up is acheived by the rubber nub creating friction on the top of the BB to give backspin. That friction slows the BB down a bit (ever notice that your guns chrony higher with no hop up and drop in velococity when more hop up is set?), but because you nulled your hop up rubber's friction, you chronied higher. A fix? Buy some white lithium grease from Canadian Tire (generally near the automotive department, I've found it in with all the garage door opener stuff), $5 for a tube, take your cylinder out and wash all the parts with dish soap and warm water, then put a reasonable amount of grease all around the piston head, reassemble, clean the inside of your barrel, then shoot it a few dozen times, that should get your hop up rubber working properly again. And use heavier BBs, your range and accuracy will increase, I'd say go 0.28g to 0.30g. Last edited by CDN_Stalker; March 13th, 2008 at 10:53.. |
