Shooting drills and exercises

Hi guys,
I was just wondering if anyone sets up targets to practice their shooting. And if they do, what exercises do you do to practice things like quicker target acquisition, moving and shooting, shooting with a rifle then switching to handgun, engaging multiple targets and other fun stuff like that.

Anyway, just thought it would be nice to hear what other people are doing.

use scaled-down IDPA/IPSC targets if you are practicing in a smaller room
setting up steel challenge style runs is good for acquisition and transitions

http://steelchallenge.com/legacy/ste...006/stages.htm

Im a fan of smoke and hope using scaled idpa targets or empty cans cause its easy to set up and take down

Hey you

Get back to work!

Often I will set up 4 targets at different ranges.. on a 180 degree arc, kit up in full gear and practice both static and moving engagements.

Then I will do transitions from primary to secondary and back .. both static and moving.

Then I will add Mag changes,

by the end of a workout I am working moving engagements to mutiple targets, with transitions and mag changes.

then.. I will do positional changes, standing to crouch to kneeling to Prone.. with all of the above.

I like to do this .. as often as I can.. used to do it weekly.. but with the demands of the job... its more like monthly now.

not sure about whats involved in the ranger handbook, but a lot of stuff for real steel is pretty useless when used in airsoft form

like bill drill's for example
=p
mozambiques have a bit more use, but IMHO, in a/s, all you really need to do is have quick and accurate acquisitions, transitions and engagement; on the move is all that much nicer to have

do wish I could have a "mover" type target that is easy to set up and take down though

usually i just set up a paper target at the end of my basement (i have a ridiculously long basement) and practise hitting the target. then, when i have the hop up set right, and eotech all lined up, i start doing things like shooting on the move, transitioning from strong side to weak side, and back. usually i use some of the architecture and furniture in my basement as cover positions and practise shooting from cover. between cover positions, i try to "un-aquire" the target, which forces me to re-aquire it at the next cover position. throw in some kneeling and prone at the different firing positions, random mag changes, it all together keeps ya pretty sharp. good for practising "snap shooting" and gets your reaction time up.

I got this dvd a few weeks ago (only had time to briefly watch it):
YouTube - Fighting Rifle Trailer

This is also a great dvd for pistol
http://www.imakenews.com/valhalla/e_....cfm?x=b11,0,w

Obviously some things in the videos don't apply to airsoft like shooting though doors at partially seen target, etc. But the stances and different reloads were gold.

Well. I just unlocked Sleight of Hand and Double Tap... I mean...

I usually find most standard drills aren't useful in the airsoft sense. Recoil is usually very light (or non existant), and since you only have to hit your target once, using many shots isn't useful (although that's off-balanced by the fact that magazine capacities are often twice if not three times as large as the actual weapons). Mozambique is nice, but a bit overkill (although it does help when people don't call their hits! ) and I just started trying Center Axis Relock again (with handguns, no sense in trying their long gun stuff, but even CAR focuses on dumping rounds down range as quickly as possible)

I try using off-balanced and unconventional shooting stances (examples being: Sitting down (On the ground, where you can't get as comfortable balanced position as prone), leaning around corners, and trying to fire with exposing as little as possible (IE, whenever you don't have room to get a nice stable weaver and the like).

As far as practical airsoft drills, I try something similar to Bryan, only with about ten targets, and specifically trying to get the drill of reloading as quickly as possible without dropping a mag.

Also, I tried using a Failed Mag drill :P Randomly not filling one magazine completely with gas or no gas at all. Then having to rapidly reload the magazine and rack the slide.
