Jing Gong M4-S Having Issues
Hey guys, Just have a small issue with my gun.
It's been working great since I got it, the fullmetal v2 gearbox propels the .20g bb's at 390FPS stock. However, once I got it out into the field last weekend it wasn't doing anything. I suspect that the cold has something to do with it, temperature was about 3-5 celcius. But the funny thing was it wasn't the batteries temperature that was effecting the gun. It did it with a nice warm battery and with a cold battery. My batteries are 1100Mah 8.4v Ni-Mh Mini types. They crank everything else that I put them into. I suspect the gearbox has some sort of lubricant in it that turns into molasses when cold. Can anyone else confirm this with Jing Gong guns? iv'e heard that it's very common with JG's stock lubricants. If thats the case.. could someone give me a hand with this thing? I Don't want to destroy my Gun.

I have a JG G36C that's stored in a cold area, 5-8c and it doesn't hiccup.
I'm guessing it all went back to normal when it was at room temp? |

The first thing I'd be looking at is the wire solder points. I've seen poor quality soldering jobs spontaneously break in the cold.
Doubt it's the lube, unless it turned entirely solid in the cold (did you use some water-based sex toy lube? :P ) and even then you would have heard the motor straining and most likely just outright blown your fuse if kept your finger on the trigger for a few seconds under those conditions. And actually, did you check the fuse, too?

Everything is fine wiring wise. And yes you are right, it does fix itself right up once the gun is back to room temperature.

but still might be too thick for the mortor to move the gears, I have the same problem with my china air ak in the cold, replaced the lube with some multi purposes stuff i found in my garage and it works perfectly fine now.

i just got a decent battery. i have a JG M4S, but, i wired it to the back and slapped a M16 stock on there. put in a large battery, and it works fine in the cold now. a friend and i came to the conclusion that its the shitty batteries they send out with those, they dont work when they get cold.

Trying to crank a M120 on a crappy shim job is prolly the problem, its only being made worse by thermal expansion caused by the cold weather. Also, a 8.4v 1100mah battery is below what I could suggest for trying to crank a M120 JG gearbox... if it's one of those shuang buang deals then that is most certainly your problem.
Condensation could also be a problem, a cold gearbox being heated by friction will tend to cause droplets to form, these could be freezing and causing problems within the gearbox itself, again only made worse by JG's horrible shim jobs and the INSANE amount of lube they put in the mech boxes. Also, the freezing temp of the grease could be well above 0c depending on what its made up of, keep in mind that propanes boiling point is like -15c, everything freezes and boils at a different temperature, general use of the term "freezing point" is used only for water. In short, have a gun doc reshim/relube the gearbox and tune the motor adjustment height, upgrade to a 9.6v 1200mah battery. Try a bigger battery man. Those mini batteries are seriously the shittiest things in the world. I was once playing a game in -25 degrees C, stock aeg, and i was running a 3300mah 8.4v large battery,no hiccups. So i suggest getting something bigger, with more mah's.

S-System has no room for anything at all bigger than a mini 8.4. The desighn does not allow for a bigger battery.

It depends on the built of the battery, Ive got a 9.6volt made out of 8 small intellect cells and its only about a quarter inch longer than a standard 8.4 mini pack. I believe that you should be able squeeze something like that in there, just taking a quick messurement with a ruler the 9.6v I have here meassures 4.5 inches, and the 8.4v measures 4 and a quarter inches.

It doesn't have to be cold enough to freeze the lube to cause an effect. Just being cold makes it get stiff. I opened a friend's JG G36 and was horrified at the amount of grease in there, so it's stands to be a valid problem.
Now 8.4 1100mah batts are underpowered for 400fps guns as I've stated in my chinasoft awareness thread, Did you try a large battery? Anywho I'm sure you can modify it to use a crane stock, those G&P batteries are awesome! |

Do you hear the motor clicking when you pull the trigger? if not then there is a connection problem. If you do it means the motor doesn't have enough power to turn the gears, and like everyone said it could be the grease.
