Suggestions on waterproofing backpacks

So, I took my maxpedition vulture out for a day of hiking in rainy vancouver and realized it is not very waterproof. Can anyone suggest a good waterproofing treatment for nylon material (scotchguard?, nikwax?), that can be bought ideally in metro vancouver?

Durability and performance is the key characteristic, but price is also a secondary factor.

If you can get to New West, go to Dave's and buy a rucksack liner. If you can't, find a shop that specializes in outdoor recreation (like Valhalla) and get a waterproof cover.

I think Dave's might still have my old Webtex cover that I sold them years back...they did a couple months ago anyway.

I know it doesn't solve the actual pack getting wet, but some dry bags would work wonders for your gear.

A better outdoor backpack. Mine fell in the water over summer (not long in it) but my clothes that was on the bottom were NOT wet.

After that, buy those water proof bags for boating. When i sailed i always had one with all my electronics and my wallet in it. You can drop it in the water and the stuff won't get wet + it floats back up

A transparent trashbin-liner would do the job.

Garbage bags work great, but I prefer a couple of these:

They're US issue waterproof bags. Nylon on the outside with a nice rubberized inside. They're quite big, they can hold both the inner and outer CDN issue sleeping bag, a ranger blanket, therma rest, shaving kit and wash basin easily. I bought 2 of them new for $10 each 15 or so years ago and they're still going strong. Any surplus store should have them. I've also noticed them on eBay fairly often.
