Questions about the CYMA M4
I have the opportunity to accquire a CYMA M4. From reviews and stuff I've read, it seems to be a pretty decent little piece considering the fact it's a plastic body. It claims a muzzle velocity of 350 FPS out of the box with .20 BBs.
The biggest complaint I seem to hear is that it's got a plastic body. I'm not planning on using this for any gaming. I want to use it for straight out target practice and as a platform to teach my son how to shoot, so its ruggedness and peformance, at least in the short term, isn't an issue. My question is how Marui-compatible is this gun? Would it accept standard TM mags, upgrades, etc? Would it be possible to fit it with a metal body down the road if I could get one (although whether it's worth it or not is another story). And I know I'lll probably get some "save your money and get a TM / CA / ICS / etc... replies and I agree with that too. Once I get "my" gun, I plan on it being of higher quality than CYMA. |

If you want a gun to target shoot, don't use an airsoft gun. The CYMA guns aren't the most accurate of the M4s, nor are M4s the most accurate airsoft guns. If you really want to target shoot with airsoft guns, use something with a longer barrel, like a G3, G36, M16, M14, etc.

Yeah, target shooting at longer ranges is pretty hit or miss with airsoft, that's for sure. Really, it's not all that much about accuracy, but more to teach my son (almost 9 years old) the basics of shooting and handling a rifle. We shoot indoors at a range of about 25 feet, and at that range, I can take the centre out of a target with my DE AK-47 pretty effortlessly with very few stray rounds. outside of the target centre. I can't imagine the M4 will be a whole lot worse, especially in my son's hands. As long as he can put the rounds in the paper target right now, he's happier than a pig in shit.
He currently shoots a clearsoft springer pistol I picked up and loves it. I also have an older Wells M4 springer that I bought as a 'decoractive' piece for the wall of my recording studio, and he loves that thing. Even with that thing, I have little trouble hitting the centre of the target at that range. He really liked it because it's easy for him to handle because it's lightweight and the retractable stock makes it easy for him to hold - easier than a full-size M16 would be. But he has a hard time pulling the charging handle on the Wells M4 to cock it because it's rather stiff. Hence why I figured the CYMA M4 is a good, cheap option for him when we shoot together. And I'm sure it would be fun for me to shoot as well. But when it comes time to get a 'real' airsoft rifle, I'll be looking no further than the classifieds on this forum. I'm meeting up with Mafioso_Grande this weekend to get my age verification, so I'll be in shopping mode for my next toy. |

Seems to me that you're more in the market for an Air Rifle, or a BB gun. They'd be better for teaching fundamentals than an Airsoft gun would be, what with the shorter range, less accuracy, etc. They're just toy guns afterall. I'd go with a BB gun instead, and save the Airsoft guns for Tactical gaming when he's old enough and ready for it.
They're cheaper than Airsoft guns as well. Can't go wrong. Last edited by Mr. G36!; November 14th, 2007 at 15:44.. |

I do have a few BB and pellet guns. I have a Crosman .375 (with 4 and 8" barrels), Crosman 1088, an Umarex Walther PPK, and a Beretta PX4 (on the way right now). He's tried them, but has issues with them. Pistols are too heavy (even the little PPK).
I've had a couple of borrowed pellet rifles, but they're too big and bulky for him, since he's a bit small for his age. The butt always gets in the way. The only rifle he's been able to shoot well is my springer M4 because of the collapsable stock. Hence the M4. And also, the M4 will be a nice collection piece regardless of its quality. What I truly want for myself and future airsoft gaming is a full-size M16, and as soon as I get age-verified, I'll be watching the classifieds here like a hawk until I get something I want. I'm new to airsoft (so new I've never actually played it yet), so I don't want to spend a fortune on a rifle (or I'd just pop for a Systema PTW and be done with it), but want something decent for my collection and for actual practical use too. |

CYMA only makes AKs, G18CAEP, & a decent MP5J. Never heard of them producing an M4.
If you want an M4, go Jing Gong or TM (If trades really matter to you) |

Hmmm... I'll have to look into the brand again to make sure it's a CYMA then.

Post a link here, or you can just get age-verified some well-priced things on the forum here that won't kill your $$$

I googled a cyma m4 springer, but thats all I got. I guess you could have 2 M4 springers, but I say go with the electric!

There are youth sized pellet guns out there. The Gamo brand comes to mind. You also avoid any risks for legalities if ever those rear their ugly head.

You could always go with a Tokyo Marui Boys' M4. They're a little smaller than the actual dimensions, and probably weigh a lot less as well. Might be something to look into, or think about at the very least.

The boys model is a waste of money, it's in the same section as Crossman.

It's a Firepower M4, not CYMA. I ordered it from A&A and he has it listed alongside all the CYMA stuff. That's what confused me.
And I want full-size so that it's comfortable for me too. |

I would back out of that order right now, Firepower has a reputation for BAD products, only their AK Beta is decent looking.

Well, the order is shipped and en route. Best case scenario is that it works out ok for my little guy. Or if it's just plain crappy, I can probably sell it off locally to someone at a bit of a loss. At worse case, it will be a showpiece on my wall, replacing my old springer M4.
