setting things up
I'm setting things up for a small game with about a dozen people. We're playing in several acres of forest (yes I'm picking up a ghillie suit on the way there), privately owned by a friend of mine who gave me permission to use it on the condition that we used biodegradable BBs.
I have batteries, BBs, safety glasses, and cold beer for everyone. I also have two spare pistols in case some idiot forgets his gun, but the rule is if you're that stupid I will give you a 3 dollar crapsoft pistol. Now I know I'm forgetting something, I just can't figure out what.

Well if this is a post to let everyone know your intention of hosting a game and that you want people to attend. Its in the wrong place to be posted. Also you may wish to look into speaking with your friend and working something up about liability for the people you will have on your land, in regards to personal injury or damage to your friends property. Also, a set date and time would be good as well.
Now if this was a post delcaring that you and a few friends are going to go out and shoot each other for fun, then disregard everything I said above. You were not very clear with the point of your post, its somewhat confusing as to me it just seems like a random comment.

really sorry for being vague folks, it's the second one. I've told everyone the rules (three teams of four, last team with players standing wins the round. There are no illegal shots, within reason. aka don't go and aim specifically for someone's face. If you've been hit, you walk back to a small clearing and wait for the next round. Everyone IS over 18.)
The question is, am I likely to get sued for anything doing this? I think I've got my bases covered, but I'm not entirely certain.

hmmm... I thought it being in a rather concealed/ remote area and on private property would make us less of a target for cops.

Although such actions on private property do not break criminal laws you could be breaking municiple by laws ... if so it will cost you a fine... and an end to your actions there. inform the police.... that way you won't have them showing up in force with guns drawn when an onlooker calls 911 and reports " guys with guns in the woods" do it right and you will know you will be ok.... Hope no one notices... and you could end up tasting dirt with shackles on.

As asked, did you check with the police, the bylaws, and if the owner is insured?
Is the site 100% secured? Are you, as the organizer, insured? Are all the players over 18? Those are all questions you must resolve before you do anything. If not, you can wind up in jail and get a criminal record (those dont go away). |

ok guys thanks for all your help
A) the site is four acres of woodland surrounded on three sides by fields owned by people who know what we're doing and have told us to go ahead. B) I stopped by 42 division and told them exactly what we'd be doing, and we're all reasonably certain that playing airsoft at this site is legal. C) As for insurance, these are all very good friends of mine who all graduated high school in the same year as me. I've spent four years with these guys and I'm quite certain they are all 18+. Nevertheless, I have a waiver signed by all of them saying they themselves are personally responsible for all injuries that they get playing airsoft in these woods. I hope I don't have to pull it out, but it's in a locked cabinet.

Read what Lawdog said in another thread just in this part of the forums.
My call? You are getting into something you are not ready at all for. Since even getting camo is a problem for you, you have no idea what's involved here. How about you hang out for several months before trying something like this? By then you will have learned why taking your time is important. |
