Depends on what kind of paintball you played.
If you played mostly woodsballs or scenario ball it's going to be a pretty easy transition. IF you played speedball you entering a whole new world.

Depending on what airsoft game you go to expect anything from a slightly more realistic experience than woodsball to an imersive milsim environment. either way airsoft is allot more honor based.

Since I switched from woodsball i haven't played since. If a friend was organizing a paintball day I might go but for my personal preference it's 100% airsoft now.

Transitioning from paintball to airsoft, first thing you'll have to learn is proper cheekweld and how to use sights. Lol

1: The most difference I think that there is between airsoft and paintball is the Gas tank, and the stock. In paintball, most markers don't have stocks, and most of the time, players substitue the gas tank as the stock. And that substitute doesn't work well because it's not flat surfaced(Slips off of your shoulder suddenly) and located kind of low. And the gas explosion on the markers are alot louder and exciting. In Airsoft, Springers and AEGs don't do much of a sound. And AEG is what you use most of the time.

2:Pretty much just the same. You just see ALOT of different variation of personally customized guns. Also, the bullet flies faster in Airsoft, most of the time.

3:I play both, but Airsoft being less often than paintball since I can play only at private area.

Bonus: Well, I still find it quite gay when I used my M4 for so long and then suddenly use the Gas Tank as the Stock. Throws off my aim and simply feels weird.

Another thing is the Scope addition. If you have a 2X or 3X telescopic sight at any paintball field, you get INSANE amount of advantage, and it's because the sight on most Markers just simply suck(And also the fact that most people rent their paintball markers from the field, the field I play at rents Tippman A5 with only the ironsight addition), it's like a fatter version of a M92 sight. But then you would probably spend some money zeroing in the sight first

I quit paintball for allot of reasons.
Paint is expensive, messy, fragile, and must be used rather quickly to avoid deforming.

A broken paintball in your barrel is a huge pain in the ass decreases the already low accuracy of the paintballs.

Having to find a place to get our c02 or nitro filled. We played on a private field so we could decide how the game was run which means their was no access to more air if someone ran out. ( getting your tanks tested every few years sucks too)

Our group was into a more realistic game style anyway so when the rest of our guys turned 18 our core group switched to airsoft within the year and we haven't looked back.

I used to play woodsball/scenario ball because that's what I had access to. For me it was all about MILSIM, so moving from paintball to airsoft was easy-peasy.

I'm not going back though. To be honest, I hate getting messy from paint and the masks are bulky and annoying to aim with. Paintball is not as good for MILSIM as airsoft either. Furthermore, and as already stated, paint is expensive and goes bad quickly.

As for what you should expect: expect people to be more serious about MILSIM. Depending on what kind of paintball you played, players will be more serious about real-world tactics, terms, handsignals, etc. An example: recently I played a game with one of my friends who had never played airsoft but had some paintball experience. He was kind of confused at first when I told him to "provide point fire on the number 2 window". To me (and a lot of more experienced airsofters) this comes almost naturally, but people who are new to it might need to have it explained.

For me, just the fact of using something that was designed to be used that way rather then lugging around the bulky ugly paintball marker/hopper/tank makes a world of a difference between paintball and airsoft.

not to mention you dont have to wash BDU's everytime you play and get paint out of all the nooks and crannies of your LBV. Washing BDU's is bad for 2 reasons: 1) cheap BDU's fade easy 2) the IR coating wears off which puts you at a disadvantage for night games

I played paintball (woodball) for 5 years. Wen I found out about airsoft, took me a month to research and go rent guns at games, then, about 2 months later, I had sold all my paintball gear and got myself a decent airsoft package. I never looked back.

Airsoft games are more team work oriented. Everything is better. Even the sound, wich most paintballer critisise, is better IMO. With the echo in the wood, the full auto bursts sound like real machine guns far far away. Some AEG sound like a cheap electric toy, but some sound really nice, like the P90.

The game is not about sound anyway. Nothing beat the feeling of shooting a steady full auto burst at 350-400fps into the bush at an ennemy position. Seeing the leafs falling off threes where the BBs are ripping trough... Mag changes, crawling and trowing grenades...

The airsoft snipers are also working more realisticly. Since the rifles are acurate and have better range, compared to paintball "snipers" wich are just a dud with a long barrel that shoot the same as other player... Airsoft snipers play a very distinct role and it work. Nothing beat taking a well placed shot in the flank of an ennemy position and having the whole line panic and flee! Snipers really have a moral effect on the ennemy!

I'm never going back to paintball, never!
