Advice needed: PSG-1 Upgrade
Hello,
I recently purchased a PSG-1 and would like to upgrade it. looking for the MOST durable/reliable upgrade that would get me to 450fps or just a little bit above that. I already have the followig:

Add a new Systema Magnum Medium-type motor.

Add a heat-resistant selector plate and lo-resistance trigger switch assembly as well as a MOSFET. http://www.wgcshop.com/pcart/shopper...716_srch_psg-1 Get an afternarket metal body, outer barrel and cocking tube (all rare and perpetually out of stock), as the TM G3-series guns have notorious body/barrel wobble. The Magnum motors, although they perform EXCEPTIONALLY well in a PSG-1, actually aren't suited for the PSG-1 at all, unless you don't mind leaving your spring in a compressed state permanantly!
The Magnum motor uses such high powered neodymium magnets, that even the weight of a 500fps spring with the anti-reversal latch disengaged can NOT reverse the motor to relieve the spring! The motor will stay at a halt! The only way I've seen to be able to successfully release the spring is to unscrew the pistol grip plates and let the motor pop out to release the tension. The downside of that method is that each time you do that, there will be a moment of gear-on-gear grinding action between the bevel gear and the pinion gear. And it's also time consuming. It can and probably will lead to stripped screw threads in the grip assembly. If you get the Systema FTK, it comes with a MOSFET. You don't need to worry about a heat-resistant selector plate at that point, because the MOSFET will reduce the current running through the selector plate to a current less than that of a stock gun! The last PSG-1 I upgraded with an FTK and Magnum motor, an 8.4v mini battery would heat up to the point of being a bit uncomfortable to handle. Eventually went with a 12volt 1500mAh solution which worked out quite nicely. You will, however, need to slice up the internals of your stock to get such a battery to fit. There's some guides available online of more extreme modifications, slamming a 10.8v 2400mAh ni-cad sub-C large pack in to the stock... |

Thanks for the reply guys. A few more questions:
What FPS do I get with Systema FTK-12 with 300% spring? (as I said, in order to comply with Israel's Airsoft rules. I must keep it to about 450FPS) Should I buy an FTK and just change the spring to 200%? Can I use the FTK-12 with the original motor? Last edited by thecat; June 11th, 2007 at 16:13.. |

300%?! wow I don't think anyone knows about those around here
Edit: but it's definately way above 450fps WAAAY above |

The Systema 300% spring with a 6.04mm tightbore inner barrel shooting 0.20g BBs should get you between 480 and 500fps.
You're better off with a 200% spring. |
