Everywhere I've played lets you use them, just don't be intentionally using it to blind people and I'm sur it'll be fine.

Here in Manitoba lasers are allowed at all events, most people only use them indoors at Xtreme Tactics. However due to the fact that there are a ton of cheap-assed lasers coming out of Asia that are FAR beyond eye safe levels, the Manitoba Airsoft Association and Xtreme Tactics are limiting lasers to 5 mW maximum and they MUST be tested when our local laser expert receives his laser power meter.
Reason for the testing? He once bought a green laser that was labelled 5mW 635 nm (which is RED, not green). He got it tested and it was putting out some 50 mW which is TEN TIMES the eye safe limit and extraordinarily dangerous, even from diffuse reflections off dull surfaces! VERY scary. We are treating this no differently than velocity limits for guns. It is a VERY serious safety issue with people's eyesight on the line. Unlike airsoft guns where an accidental discharge typically only means a welt that will heal up, laser damage to your eyes is PERMANENT. |

What do you need a laser for anyway? There are no "safe" lasers out there. Even a 5mW laser, when held to they eye for a long enough period will cause damage. I know the BCAC does not allow them at their events. I seriously wonder why other clubs do.

Cause they're cool? And constant exposure to the safe limit is unlikely unless you don't close your eyes....or move?
I would like to know whether an exposure could cause noticable damage a period after initial occurance? |

I'd have to agree with greylocks on this one. I mean we wear goggles to prevent BBs from hitting our eyeballs. Shouldn't we worry about those lasers too?

I'm down to one eye already. I'm kind of attached to my last one. Leave your "cool" lasers on your Myspace page.

Here in Calgary JOC has a 5mW limit and lasers are tested. But pretty much all the green lasers are banned.
Use your laser it cleaverly points me right to your position and if you "need" a laser to know where you are shooting, well I don't know what to say about that |

I think just as anything else, responsable use is all that needs to be administered. Using a laser as an aiming device is retarded. Using a laser divice as a target indication tool "he is in the 3rd building to the left, the one I have indicated with my laser" is a fine use of the tool. Of course going around lasing people should be unnaceptable. I guess it comes down to if you trust the people you play with to use the equipment they have in a safe manor.

I'm w/ Empty Mags on this one - it comes down to if you trust the other players on the field.
I suppose that is only possible though when you have a good group of people whom are all switched on - some of the larger player bases like Toronto would pose a problem. However simple before-game player briefs (and if I know empty_mags at all, it would go something like "Alright, lasers are allowed, but only for lasing targets - if you point it at anyone you're gone - but not before we all take turns beating you with your own rifle") can easily establish when not and and when to use a laser. |

Do you wear glasses Greylocks? I do, just wondering if we got lase'd in the eye, if it would be amplified somewhat due to the magnification.
