What does MAH stand for battteries
will the higher the MAH hurt the chances of my gun lasting longer?

Mili Amps per Hour...................i think
Higher mah probably wont hurt you gun but a higher voltage will such as 9.4v |

milliamperes ---> milli (thousandths) amp (unit of current) eres (funny way of saying hours
correctly: mAh (prefix and last char is not supposed to be capitalized) Ampere was a dude so the A is capitalized mAh is a measure of capacity for a battery. It specifies how much current flow a battery can maintain for an hour. I.E. a 3600mAh battery can maintain 3600mA or 3.6A for one hour.

Higher rated batteries will be able to fire more shots. On a bulk scale, higher mAh can sometimes indicate a lower internal resistance so a higher voltage is delivered to the motor. However, capacity is often traded off with internal resistance if you stick to the same cell and technology. Because of technological improvements in batteries this hasn't been the case in the past few years. I used to be that there was a tradeoff between IR and capacity but because cell design has improved significantly the tradeoff hasn't been much of an issue. Pretty much any sub C cell has a low enough IR to drive the relatively low current requirements of airsoft guns.
The super current demands of RC cars had dragged rechargable batteries past what airsofters need so we can enjoy high cap batteries that have low resistance now.

Wasn't Ampere a french dude who discovered it?

Since I haven't seen it correctly in this thread yet, mAh stands for milliamp-hours, not milliamps per hour. Big difference. MadMax described it well but forgot to touch on its proper pronunciation.

Nutshell; the more MAH, the better because your battery lasts longer. No, it wont hurt the gun.
Too much voltage can, and will, hurt the gun. |

Yeah like when lutnit hooked up a 9.6v to his new L85 and stripped the piston
I was ROFLMAO.. To bad I left before that, I would of so liked to see his expression.

I was always told when I started playing that you should stick to an 8.4v with a stock AEG and go to a 9.6v if you upgrade, since theres more power to turn the gears. I dunno I'm high on T3s right now. |

I really hope those T3's are prescribed and you have a reason to use them. I quit drugs 4 years ago and clean since.. Hearing about it makes me want to take a lashing to the person as its a waste to that person and he/she is to stupid to realise it and well we all know we need less stupid people.

Yeah a 7.2V or 8.4V is more than plenty for a stock gun. I use a 7.2V exclusively in my M249 even with upgrade springs but I run a high end pack that is charged very precisely to get the most juice out of it. I'm always satisfied with the ROF.
