Airsoft IPSC

Im trying to gauge the interest in making an Ontario APSC league...
Or if there is already one, perhaps organizing quarterly events.

Im hoping there is some interest in this venture. Please post with ideas or comments.

I would be trying to set up it in classes....
Its a timed/skill competition so it could be done in various levels...

There may be more intrest in a skirmish league. Scheduled games, playoffs, championships, possible sponsors. Could bring some more awareness to the sport. opcorn:

You don't want more awareness of the sport.

I dont want a Skirmish league. Im looking to promote skilled shooting with a safer alternative to real steel. And yes we want to get more awareness, but from players.

We have options like what you are talking about as-styles with our club here in Victoria, the South Island Rangers. I agree with what you have in mind.
Our home ground is located within a 175 acre property owned by an outdoors sporting association, the Victoria Fish and Game Protective Association. The Association has facilities that include trap shooting, rifle and pistol ranges where alot of military and law enforcement personel train/use.
Given appropriate numbers attending, we plan on having tactical and marksman style competitions at our milsim events.
Its a good idea, especially if it is done correctly.

You can go play paintball.

Back on topic, even if I don't participate in it, I'll be interested to see the competition.

well once we have launched the store front. I can put more time into this, and try on organize an event. If the turn out is good, I will put my time into the forming of a league/association.

But please feel free to give opinions and comments as I want to get a real gauge of interest.

Being a real gun owner, I can tell you that the last thing you want is ANY public awareness in Canada of ANY game with guns. Much less 'evil' handguns.

Aside from the obvious reasons of not wanting more "awareness" ((Btw, paintball guns ARE on the list to be banned with that band-wagon to get all guns banned too ya know ))

There is also the fact that there REALLY isn't the people base out there for a "League". Certianly not enough for "classes" where people get into different levels of going up against the next guy. Team Vs. Team is possible maybe, but what would we need a league for that for? I mean there are teams out there that DO do drills and stuff. Teams out there that are more lax and just in it for some fun.

There are about 100 Paintballers to every ONE! Airsofter. Even that is probably still an underestimation of how many airsofters there are against Paintballers. Take Ottawa alone, there may be 50? maybe 70 of us here TOTAL that have played or know what it really is. In a city with a population of what? 600,000? Where as paintball there is about 1200 people that play the game in Ottawa. Of those 1200 is maybe 60-100 that play any "tournaments." Others just play to go have fun.

While you're doing up your business plan and looking to where your store-front is going to make its money. Look at the people base you have there, and then factore that maybe, MAYBE 30-40% will want to play in a league. And then factor that not everyone has the time/money/gear/ability to play leagues. Some people have things called jobs and no, I tried getting someone to sign me a note saying I was at a "Group Help" meeting trying to deal with an acute addiction to airsoft, it didn't work. MAYBE NEXT TIME!

I refuse to endorse this idea, for many of the reasons already mentioned here. This sounds like no more than a money-maker idea for whomever starts it, and not something condusive to the interests of airsoft as a whole.

You want to do IPSC.... fine... get your restricted licence, pass your black badge, join the federation and fire away. The only time I use airsoft pistol for IPSC is at home for some practice drills.

WHOA WHOA WHOA! Safer alternative?! Safer? Look it, if they don't practice safe rules on the firing range with real-steel. What the hell is gonna make it safe if they don't practice safe rules with airsoft?!

You want a "safer alternative"? You lock up your gun, in a steel bomb proof box, burry it in the ground pour a slab of concrete over the hole and go back inside to watch the foot ball game. Because seriously, if you can't tell the difference between the black card-board cut out down range and the guy next to you? WHAT THE HELL DO YOU HAVE A GUN IN YOUR HANDS FOR?!

And if you say "Well what if you put the gun down and it tips over while you turned to do something?" Well then why did you leave the gun loaded jack-ass?

league's have been talked about before, I remember Storeskeeper trying to get one started.

Let's see a more in depth explanation of what you have in mind. Though would suggest loosing the safer alternative to IPSC as the real steelers on ASC obviously have taken that as an insult, and considering most of the real steelers I've met in Ontario are some of the safest players in the Airsoft community it would stand to reason that they are even more ANAL (Yup guy's I'm calling ya ANAL but in a good way!!! Honest! Really!) when it comes to safety with the real GBBs as one of my friends calls them. just a suggestion on that one.

Also I took a look at your website, thank you for the acknowledging the "article" as a bad idea on the site. Because of that alone, I'll be PMing you later to ask about the "Modify" product line as it sounds interesting.

If you dont shoot IPSC or handguns at all for that matter, you have no business whatsoever making claims about the safety of the sport.

Anyone who actually shoots at a legitimate range knows this scenario is almost impossible given range-light rules and proving clear. A loaded gun is NEVER unattended, EVER.
