Beta run of new Classifieds script - feedback please

http://www.airsoftcanada.com/classifieds/

I've just setup a barebones configuration of the new classifieds script. It has many features that are very nice, but also some that I'm a little tepid about.

I haven't modified the layout in any way for now - if we like it on ASC, then I'll consider putting them time in to re-organize it a bit better.

However, in the meantime I'd like to invite anyone to give it a try, and let me know how they find. Ultimately it would replace using the forums for classified ads.

As I see it...

Pros:
Clearly organized ads
Image and price integrated into browsing (visible on list view, makes it easy to see what's for sale).
Maintenance tools (set a time limit for your ad, or click "SOLD" and have it auto-expire once the transaction is completed)
Built-in feedback system
Allows discussion like a normal forum posting
Auctions!

Cons:
Layout is a little yucky (fixable)
No stickied/permanent posts
No way to bump (might be a good thing?)
It's new and everyone hates new things

Give it a try. Serious ads will be kept, joke ads (e.g. "Testicles for sale") are welcome if you want to test the system, but they will be removed, so what we can see what it looks like with some real data.

And let me know what you think.

I like the fact that its automated, unlike the basic topic/post classifieds. Im sure everyone would get used to it after a while.

I like it. Easy, simple and clean.

I just hope people will start to delete their sold items.

It seems okay, but I think that like all things pertaining to the Internets, only time will really tell. I think we'll only be able to tell how good it is once people have really started using it a fair deal, but for now, it seems to be good.

For auctions, does seller have to honour the final bidding price? (If not reserve is set?)

Well this makes it alot easier. I might also disable the permanent posting, so that ads don't survive past 60 days. You've also for the "SOLD" button which makes it easy to tick off your ad and have it auto-delete.

That would be the point of an auction - if the seller didn't I would expect to get some negative feedback.

I think reserves are silly, and skew the whole auction process. If there's a minimum price you won't sell below, you should set that as your starting bid - doesn't waste anyone's time, including your own.
Reserves just make it a regular ad, with a chance the seller will get more money. No reserve auction means your item gets market rate, which is the point of an auction: you got the most the market was willing to pay at that time, and you have a guaranteed sale.

Once all the ads are moved over I think it will be perfect. I like the Condition and Price fields.

I'm winning a plane for 10 billion dollars.

Layout is great, except for where you bid...it took me about 30 seconds to find out where that was. Perhaps having it bold IMPACT or at the top or bottom rather than in the middle in small font.

Other than that it looks great, but will there be charges similar to e-bay? i.e. pay $0.60 cents to post an ad or ads with lots of pictures, fancy font, etc.

I don't really want to bother with that, I'd prefer to keep the classifieds as busy as possible and open to everyone.
