Motor and Gear Upgrade
I'm currently running a TM AUG with a prometheus MS120 spring, Systema steel bushings, and a prometheus 6.03 Tight Bore. I'm running a 9.6V 1700 mAh "numchuck" battery.
I would like to replace the gears after the stock ones wear out(i'm sure they will soon enough) and while I am buying new gears, I would like to achieve a higher ROF by buying a new motor with it. I notice that the ROF on an AUG is slower than an M4(with EG1000 motor) and even an AK(with the same EG700 motor), both running 9.6V batteries as well. So, I was wondering if you guys could recommend a Gears/Motor combo to me so that I can replace my gears with more durable ones, but also achieve a higher ROF than before. I'm most familiar with Systema parts so if you could recommend parts by systema, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in Advance. |

High speed gears + 120m/s spring = lot's of current needed from your battery( way more than a mere mini is capable of. You'd be needing 3000mah+ and you simply can't fit it in that gun).
Torque up gears will let you run that spring with a lower mah-rated battery, but your ROF is going to be lower. Your running pretty much at the limit of gear stress with that spring and HS gears. A standard ratio reinforced gear set will work as well. I've seen EG700 motors turn guns at 450fps+ and 15 rounds/sec with the correct battery size and standard ratio gears. Your motor should be just fine for the job at hand, as long as you size the battery for your gear/spring combo.

Thanks
Thanks a lot for the quick reply.
I guess the main limiting factor for me is the battery. I have no other choice than the 1700mAh because I can't get a higher mAh AUG battery. So I guess i'll have to work around it to get a higher ROF. So if I were to use the standard gear ratios (Which have a bit higher ROF than the torque up gears as you say), is it alright to use a high speed motor for my setup? Or will a high-torque motor be more appropriate? |

I have a 2300 mah 9.6v that is made for an aug.

If I were you, stick with a 110m/s spring and keep your motor. Stick to standard ratio gears and you can get a battery as large as 2300mah like Tankdude has. It should give you a decent ROF and last for more than a couple of mags. Prometheus springs can sometimes be overachievers as my MS100 in an M4 shoots 370FPS with .2 and 345 with .25.
Torque gears will give a more efficient use of battery current, but at the expense of ROF. It sounds though like you want it all, 420 FPS at 900+ rpm out of an AUG and you just can't have it, unless you go external with your battery.

if your really interested in a faster motor, take a look at the eagle force hammer.

Eagle Force Hammer/Hummer 1300 motor will do the job plenty nice with increased torque and increased ROF
