sling for ak47

I was wondering if anyone out there knows how i might work my way around the fact that only a right handed person can have a sling on an AK.

The (real) gun is not designed for left handed shooters; you'd get far too much hot brass in the face all the time. So it was designed as it is available in active service.

I dont think there is an easy solution that would not look crappy.

what the hell are you guys talking about? I'm lefted handed with a rifle and this gun is perfect for me.

First go to a regular sling, none of that tac crap 3-point if your left handed on this rifle.

Grey, as for being designed for "right handed" people, I've a russian friend of the family who served 6 years in the Russian Army who says they're more lefties than righties over there. Also the selector is perfectly placed so that the left hand stays on the trigger with the right hand slips a mag in and pulls it to full auto. Though I do prefer semi and being able to just slap the selector down in a hurry helps

EDIT: Also the brass SHOULD rebound off the slide handle. Like it does on most of my semi-auto remingtons. **sucks being lefty with a lever action... specially when its your favorite action**

Well, since I have owned and fired a real AK, I beg to differ. The ejection port would be in your face (not good), and the ejecting hot shells would slam in the face of a left-handed shooter.
For airsoft, it does not matter. I was just covering the reasoning, mechanics, and history of the real thing.
Marui copied it, and kept the design quirks.

but I'm saying from my expereince with all my semi-automatic rifles and that I am left handed and refuse to pay an extra $1000 for a left handed rifle. The handle on the charging slide well deflect any brass casings from hitting my face or chest, other wise they just fly out over my shoulder. The charging handle is also longer on the AK than any of my hunting rifles.

I've only gotten a brass shell to the neck once and that was out of my .308 winchester lever action. I've since never snapped a shot over my right shoulder again. ((ejection port straight at me in the position... on the plus side I did drop the doe))

Drach, unless you have fired a real AK, you are speculating. It sends the brass at a sharp angle backwards and to the right, with force.

If you hold it in a left handed grip, your face is in the way.

Yes, many modern assault rifles have taken this into consideration, but the AK dates from 1947... A sling on the right hand side would also mean that the charging handle would dig into your body when slung. The safety could snag and release, too.

Key words here; I've owned AND fired one. I have owned and or fired Armalites, M14, Mini-14, G3, and Walther products. I know how they shoot from direct experience, not stories. Let's not argue this.

What this guy wanted to know is if it was possible. Yes, for airsoft, it's possible to do it because nothing ejects. In real life, it would not be done.
Marui copies real rifles in great detail. The clients (us) expect the gun to be identical in all details.
A left-handed AK would not be a true copy.

So can it be done with an airsoft gun? Yes. Because it does not matter. Is it easy? Somewhat. Is it realistic? No. So all he has to figure out is if he cares.

um... I dont really know. Never thought about it.

I use my left eye mostly. But i can shoot both, left and right handed. I am dominantly left handed.

Edit: Yes, the gun is great for left handed people. fire selector is on the right side. changing mag and fire selection, is one flud motion.

You can follow the instructions here to find your dominant eye.

Arguing with Greylocks about anything real steel is like arming yourself with a marshmellow to bring to a gun fight. It's just something one doesn't do. Sanely anyways.

OK try this put your 3 point sling on the right side(assuming you already have it) now place right hand on the trigger grip and trigger your left out front tilt body about 45 degrees and hold to left side

if done right the gun is actually rested on your chest and not shoulder

i would not suggest this with real recoiling rifle as i have been told it can crack the sternum i dont know for sure

I find it hard to believe that it would crack bones, but I wouldn't want to try it. Its guarenteed to knock the wind out of u with a high caliber weapon.
