I'm puzzled. Why would people want to buy kits for inferior Marui parts when VFC and others are releasing full guns and probably for less money?

Also unless I'm mistaken, KA's entire kit lineup is identical to Guarder's. Curious.

The kit gives you the flexibilty to scratch build a gun to suit your wants/needs. You buy a prebuilt VFC, CA, or whatever .. maybe you don't like it's accuracy or power, or maybe the stock mechbox likes to crack after a few thousand rounds... you end up paying more for upgrades. So in the long run are you really saving?


I guess it comes down to whether you have the ability/tools required to build a gun, and whether you're willing to spend the extra cash now vs. spending it later.


KA and Guarder kits are made by the same 3rd party, KA pricing is generally cheaper.

Well, maybe you've been playing for almost 7 years and have a half-dozen Marui AK's in various states of assembly sitting around the basement, but didn't want to shell out $1K each for the Guarder kits.... :tup:

Heheh, allow me to clarify that.

The VFC AKS-74UN comes with all VFC parts which I believe are steel or aluminum. To my knowledge they don't even know what pot metal is. When assembling a Guarder kit you have to use the trigger guard and mag catch off the TM gun, as well as the bolt cover (unless you buy the 'stell' bolt separately) and the receiver cover latch. One review of the VFC gun has pointed out that the cover latch is of the proper profile whereas if you use the one from the TM gun, it isn't. Also when I had my TM AK I found the mag release pin tended to wiggle loose and pop out quite often which was a serious pain in the ass.

And while I trust TM internals they're nothing spectacular, nor is the stock velocity. The VFC gun shoots some 350 fps out of the box. In Skruface's case where he has a pile of AKs left over then I can definitely see a kit being a financially viable option. For those that aren't in that situation having to spring for a TM gun (~$500) plus this kit (easily another $500, likely more), then another hundred or more to attain decent performance with upgrade parts, versus the pre-built VFC for $700 to $800, the smart money is on the latter, no pun intended. And when the parts in your VFC break, replace them with another $100 worth of internals and you're still ahead of the game.

Now if these KA parts kits are around the CAD$200 to $300 mark, everything I've said above is null and void although something tells me that won't be the case.

Stock velocity doesn't mean anything, any manufacturer could package any spring they like in stock guns. Classic Army itself is testament that first generation guns don't necessarily work out. It's 5 years on now and they only just really got their mechbox designs. I'd like to handle and take apart a VFC first before I would decide whether it is better or worse.

I think if you're going for the look, then get the VFC package. But until you can prove that VFC's engineering and QC standard is up to Marui's (and thus far no other company has entirely, including CA), someone looking for guaranteed performance and well-engineered internals should still seriously consider TM.

The flip side to that is that adding aftermarket parts that don't necessarily meet TM's tolerances may reduce performance. But I've seen more examples of gun manufacturers just making a merely below/average quality product, than TM's be problematic with aftermarket parts.

You still do get what you pay for, and TM is fanatical about attention to detail. That is more important than just looks for some people.

Dont you mean TM lovers?

I can pick up my CA G36 by the flashhider and hold it out level to the ground and it doesnt flex at all, thing has a fiberglass reinforced body unlike the TM normal plastic one, stronger with little to no extra weight. Thing shoots far more accuratly than my TM Sig552 or TM P90 (due to barrel length though...) and all in all I'm really glad I have it, want to get out to a field and try it out. If I had bought a TM one it would had cost just a bit less but I would need to get an aftermarket front end to make it full length as well as metal bushings and bearing spring guide but I already have those with the stock CA gun. Looking at getting a CA wood and steel AK next, the KA kits do look nice but the CA one is a couple hundred less and I am a student after all (though my gun wall doesnt reflect this...)
