Authentic airsoft trench mortar...how?
I would like to build an airsoft light-mortar for launching low power shells full of bb's or modified smoke canisters instead of firing a bunch of bb's shotgun-style like most home-made mortars.
here's a picture of what I would like to base it on: M224 60mm Mortar Some of the problems I think could be a problem include(in order from biggest concerns to smallest): 1. Designing a (reusable?)shell designed to detonate apon relatively low-impact and send bb's flying. 2. Constructing a decent bipod(weld some pipes together maybe? but what about a hinge?). 3. The propellant for the shell(should be ignited/released/whatever by landing on the firing pin(I'm considering using small c02 canister)) Any ideas, tips, opinions, etc are much appreciated. |

Talk to the guys at http://www.swordairsoft.com, they have several functioning mortars that fire shells of BBs to several hundred feet range. Could save you a lot of time and expense by having them build one for you.

Don't re invent the wheel. Check out the mortars that Zero Delay sells here on the boards.
I have one. They are very well built units, work great, and look kickass to boot. |

Hairspray makes good propellant. Intead of BBs use a potatoe with a cherry-bomb in the middle for shells.

^ nope
here are a few ideas, although getting your hands on these might not be easy You can try to mod one of these to make a mortar http://www.redwolfairsoft.com/redwol...p?prodID=20411 http://www.redwolfairsoft.com/redwol...sp?prodID=9278 or if you are just looking for rounds these are what i had in mind http://www.redwolfairsoft.com/redwol...sp?prodID=8839 http://www.redwolfairsoft.com/redwol...sp?prodID=8840 this would work great if you dont want an external powersource http://www.redwolfairsoft.com/redwol...p?prodID=18607 aparrently it only needs to have the pin pushed in to launch, so you can fab up something to make it realistic, like so you just drop it down the barrell and it lets loose if not i think going with a potato gun or external co2 tank is the best way to go, the hard part is to get shots consistant so you can actually calculate trajectories |

Thought of that, that's why you put a cherry bomb in it. I was just kidding though, except for the hairspray. |
