Gas escapes from mag while inserting it into the gun?
Hi, I have a glock 18C and when ever I fill it up for about 2-3 sec. and insert it into the gun, the metal button that releases the gas from the mag is pressed when put into the gun. The back of the inside of the magazine well presses the button and some of the gas releases. What should I do? Should I fill the mag whilst in the gun?

Take the slide off and put a good chunk of oil in the hammer area and just forward (into the grip) and work it in. Put your thumb in front of where the hammer hits, pull the trigger so the hammer stops on your thumb, push the little bump on the frame down to retract the hammer/release valve linkage, cock the hammer again and repeat a couple dozen times.
Then report back to us. |

That's not suppose to do that! Sounds like the striker pin (one that pushes on the gas valve) is not springing upward when mag is inserted, possible internal part problem.
In the mean time try cocking the gun first before inserting the mag. This will prevent the mag from leaking. If it still leaks then the problem is with the mag.

Here's a question: When th emag is outside the gun, and you are about to shove it in, previous to that have you pulled the trigger at all? In order for that gas release linkage to retract, the slide needs to be pulled back and released. Otherwise, that release linkage is going to be wating for the slide to cycle before it retracts, and you rputting the mag in when it's latched forward will press on the mag's release valve.

it has nothing to do with the mag's release valve the plastic ABS grip in the bottom is pushing it in. The valve is petruding more that regular.

In a weird way, I think he has the reverse problem we have. We get problems due to cold environments, this sounds like a bit of overpressure due to the heat in Guam.
Maybe I'm totally off base, but this has gotten me curious. |
