Best Bang for your Buck

Im looking at getting a sniper rifle for indoor and out door, i dont plan on moding it because i already have a high velocity gun for out door. I alls i have been able to find are picture of the maruza and all the others but no technical data for which one is the "best".

Im mainly looking into the VSR-10 because i have heard it is an amazing gun from Maui but i dont know what its competition is for the same price.

The criteria is that it must be 320fps or so
spring (i dont like buying gas)
rail mounts
under $500

If you have any info it would be greatly appreciated

From your criteria, the vsr seems about right, I think all others are most expensive then that.

All the VSR-10's are quiet until you upgrade them. I've personally owned a VSR-10 and it was a nice piece of kit. It worked well in the laser trek arena and out at Weekend Warriors. For the price, I think it would be your best option. Now, when we're talking about your criteria, there are several problems. 320fps isn't really allowed in the indoor arena in calgary. It's 300fps firm from what I've seen and heard. My VSR-10 shot a good 292fps on average before I upgraded it. Also, rail mounts don't come stock on the VSR-10. If you're refering to a rail upon which you can mount a sight, I believe the G-Spec version comes stock with one. If you're wanting other rails, you can simply buy a G36c rail kit and do a little bit of body work on the VSR.

The VSR-10 would be the best gun for your price range. Everything else is either too expensive or too crappy.

I dont get it; why do you want an indoor sniper rifle? Is that not totally out of concept?

Overall, I'd be sorely tempted by a VSR-10 GSPEC, as mentioned. I'd also leave it 'stock'.

Here in calgary its been 320 fps indoor as long as i can remember but in Lazer trek there are getting to be a few new games being played where a sniper is a really fun role to play. If i could spend $600 would this open the door to a lot more guns that would be better or is the VSR the best for that price range?

I really want the GSPEC, its really sexy.

Hmn... did they change the rules at JOC and at TAC-OPS? When I started playing 3 years ago, I was always told that the limit was 300fps firm. No matter, it's just an interesting point, that's all.

You won't be looking at getting a "better" sniper rifle until you're willing to drop about $800. I would honestly stick with the TM VSR-10 GSPEC if I were you.

Greylocks, in the Calgary indoor arena, there are lots of opertunities to use a sniper rifle pending on how many people show up to a game. JOC and Tac-Ops used to play alot of hostage games and in that type of scenario a sniper rifle came to good use. We used to have the guys with the pistols and the AEG's distract the guy with the hostage while the sniper would stand in a dark corner and wait for a good 3" diameter shot on the "hostage taker". That strategy worked a good 7 out of 10 times...

Ah, so the space is that big? Okay, it's just such an unusual idea.

And no, there's nothing really worth $600 that the Gspec wont do in my opinion, unless you can start looking at the L96 or the APS series.

Then the next question with this feed back is gas guns. If i were to look at any for about the same price are there any that immediatly jump out?

What kind of gas is used? and can i use propane? because it is soo much cheeper.

Lazer trek has some good long shots in it and alot of really tight shots that someting like that would be nice for.

We played a game of touch the wall where the up stairs only had 2 people and they were snipers. They worked as a 3rd team and i had a frigin BLAST when i did this. Its the only indoor game where i got 11 kills in a 20 minuite round.

Now, this is my opinion but, don't bother with gas rifles. As a stock gun, they are too inconsistent with gas release. Again, in my opinion, they only become decent guns if you add on an external gas rig with a decent regulator to keep your pressures consistent. I would honestly stick with a spring type gun.

Now, since I haven't had a ton of experience with the gas sniper rifles, I wouldn't really know which ones are "good", but I can tell you which one to avoid. Avoid any and all Marushin "sniper rifles" like the plague. Their pistols and shotgun are fine but, their rifles are just the pits. Mostly due to their severely lacking hop-up system.

With all that being said, have fun being a sniper indoors at Laser Trek. It's hard as hell. You’ll want to make sure that you make proper use-age of all the nooks and cranny’s in that place. There's very few good places to snipe from in there. There's the far left corner on Romeo and there's another good spot in the houses but truly, that's about it. I've only ever needed to use a sniper rifle in the hostage games and truthfully, a TM M16 would have a very similar effect as a sniper rifle.

Are you sure? That basically means no upgraded guns...

I know for a fact that it was 300fps as of a little over a year ago at both clubs. (I haven't played with either group since, seeing as I helped to form a different one.)
When I was playing with JOC and TAC-OPS, both groups were firm on 300fps rule. The reason was that the CQB was just too close for anything higher. The majority of Laser Trek is short hallways and coridoors, so you're typical engagement range is about 6'-8'. Most people don't want to be hit by an upgraded gun at that range. There are only about 3 points in the entire arena where you have the opertunity to engage at over 30'. However, I have been out of both of those clubs for over a year so, rules may very well have changed. I know that JOC frequently changes their rules of play.

EDIT: By looking at JOC's website, they have indeed changed their limits. JOC is now operating at 320fps for indoor play. However, TAC-OPS still seems to be going with the old 300fps. According to the website anyways.

Just for my two cents, I have 2 Gspecs oone shoots 420 fps and the otherstock. I love them they are accurate and effective for me and I can see myself using one for indoor one time. Best money I ever spent.
