HyperStealth SpecAm camo
What do you guys think of this stuff?
http://www.hyperstealth.com/specam/home/index.html To me, it looks much better and more sensible than MULTICAM, CADPAT or MARPAT (even as good as those all are!). I've ordered a set of the Standard Woodland and the High Contrast Definition Woodland. The Urban looks pretty wicked too! I'm also looking forward to the Mountain pattern coming out - looks like it would work well in Autumn/Winter woodland. My only gripe is the ACU style uniform - I prefer Canadian style trousers and British style smocks. |

Look nice. But the picture with background are a little too manipulated to show how good the stuff is.
I'd like to see it in action in person. That bein said, I'd hit it!

What about the fabric? Is it as good/better than the CADPAT Cordura (in terms of durabiliy, fading, softness, etc)?

as far as ive heard from the collectors market, hyperstealth are nothing more then fabric printers which print thier own patterns and get uniforms made. They do a lot of off patterns, such as thier digital tigers and stuff..
this is not some sort of new prototype off the line thing..

I'd hit it too. The woodland looks kinda like cadtarn. or fleckpat.

hmm.. just from an aesthetic stand-point I preferred their standard woodland version... the pattern in the HCD kinda looks like when I try to do 'art' in MS paint. Also, it mentions the build material as being '100% lightweight cotton'. My reading on the subject points out cotton loses its color quickly and is more vulnerable to wear when compared to a 50/50 twill of polyester/cotton or nylon/cotton, such as is present in Propper or other mil supply builds. Their dye job may be top notch, hard to say without seeing the back of the fabric, but my instinct says avoid. Any experienced users of BDUs wish to relate to this research? |

Good find. Their urban dark and mountain range patterns look tempting. Lets hope they offer shipping discounts/group rates. Their %15 flat shipping charge could end up to be rather expensive.

Well I've not yet subjected a set to a full wash-wear-and-durability test, but I did get an evaluation set of the HCD Woodland - and it feels great. Its made in lightweight 100% cotton becuase it was originally designed for jungle use - but it feels like very high quality material, and the quality of the dyes also appears to be very high quality. So that should overcome the doubts about colour retention. In the final analysis, all fabrics fade somewhat over time - its the quality of the dyes that determines how much or how little.
By the way, HyperStealth is not to be confused with Tiger Stripe Productions. They did help TSP with the design of their digital tiger stripe pattern, but HyperStealth is much more than just a design studio - they actually do design through to full production. As they did for example with the Jordanian armed forces. In my opinion, they've really got the right idea with the region-specific camo. CADPAT and MARPAT are both really good for some environments, but they're not so great in others (same for MULTICAM). The cool thing about SpecAm is that it should give you the ability to match your camo to your area - and have a different look from the other digital patterns out there. I just hope that it takes off and that it becomes as readily available, and with a wide range of gear and clothing choices, as the other patterns. |

I haven't yet had a chance (or good light) to get out into the woods for a proper photo shoot, but here's a couple of quick test shots outdoors this afternoon at least.
One photo shows a range of SpecAm patterns laid out side-by-side for comparison, the other shows an "HCD Woodland" shirt placed between some shrubbery in such a way as to simulate a prone or crouching person, the other one shows both an "HCD Woodland" and a "Tropical" shirt side-by-side between the shrubs. And then finally, one of the "Tropical" shirt up close. |
