Which sling is best?

Hey guys I was just wondering on the best sling to get for the AEG I want. I was looking at a TM M4, and was wondering if a 3 point sling will put to much stress on the barrel. If so would a 2 point be better?

Tell me what you think?

Get the hardware needed for a 1 point sling. Hardward is easily available, simply take off the M4 stock, replace the little spacer thing between the stock tube and the body, then hook the sling onto either side of the attachment. Then you have a fast ass sling position, and zero strain on the barrel end of it. And, make sure the sling you choose is 1.5" wide, easier to use, and distrubutes the load on your shoulder better. For that type of sling, you want to run it over your shooting shoulder, and under your weak armpit. That way you can shoot normally as if there was no sling.

This is great advice! So many people actually sling their rifles wrong.

My suggestion though would be to go with a Blue Force Gear sling

Thanks Farmboy, good to have experienced info posted, eh? Ya, took me a bit of study to understand the intimates of the 3 point sling.

F. Castle, I forgot to mention, for your application, the least stress inducing sling is the single point attached to the stock. Second least stress inducing sling is the three point, simply because there is a strap that runs along-side the gun itself, the set point goes under your shooting shoulder, the adjustable part goes over your non-shooting shoulder and connects to the webing that runs along your gun. If you let the gun hang, it hangs point down, so most of the strain in on the rear end anyways. 2 point sling is the worst for you, since it will flex the front end badly, no matter what way you use the sling. So, 1 point or 3 point. Nuff said, hope that all helps!

For a stock TM armalite, I would recommend a 1 point sling since it won't stress the gun so much. But if you do feel like going with a 3 point sling, check out this link:

http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=19&t=252462

You can make the sling for ~$10.

thanks for all the help guys :-D , I actually have a 3 point sling for the paintball gun I use. (tippmann A5) and was hoping to adapt it to suit my needs, just thought that I would ask before possibly damaging my gun.

Slither

If you are really worried about it, play it really safe and make yourself a slither strap.

It runs from the D rings on the shoulders of most common vests and LBE's to the stock. That's it. It can either use the existing clip point on the stock of your AEG (if there is one on your stock) or the strap can just wrap around the stock itself.

It has it's advantages and disadvantages:

Pro's
- The strap material runs less risk of scratching your stock.
- You don't have to worry about it catching in any of your gear as much. It hangs on top of everything else, and it takes up almost no space
- Like other straps, if you build it with a quick release, you can pop your gun off in a hurry, but unlike other straps, your only left with about 6 inches of strap on your vest/LBE to get in the way.

Con's
-The entire weight of the gun is hanging from a single point on your shoulder
- Need another solution if your vest/LBE doesn't have the D rings at the shoulder
- The quick release is very close to your face so it's hard to see to get it unclipped sometimes and takes some practise.

I love them, and make my own, with no sewing at all, from old issue cannister holsters (they hold the filter cannister on the old M3 Gas masks.) that cost $.75 at Princess Auto and have steel clips, no plastic. I can hang from mine and I weigh 240.

On occasion, and it's not often stuff we could really use as Airsofters. Unless you're handy

But they do get things like the cannister harness, and I have seen some old pouches and nuke bags in there. I have seen ahalf shelter or two and some real vintage gas masks!

Hmm, cool! I've never been to Princess Auto before, not sure what is in the Ottawa store, but sounds more interesting for me to check out now.

Instead of having a sling, you could just use some paracord an a d-ring.

When your patrolling you won't have a sling banging around an getting caught on anything. Then if you need your hands free for something, let your rifle hang off your body, etc

When out patrolling, slings are useless since your weapon will be in your hands all the time.

This is true, but I like to have one just in case my rifle breaks down, I can sling it across my back and go to my pistol and not worry about it falling or swinging around to hit a wall or someone.

and wow an auto shop thats sells surplus..., thanks for the sugestion, perhaps you could post how to make the sling with the cannister strap?
