Theory

Since about 100 noobs join here a day asking if they can buy some uber ICS M4 from redwolf when they live in Canada, and we have to go thru the whole process of, you can't order from outside of Canada because Customs is too tight, etc...

Well, how about since they are too retarded to read for their own good, I say we just let them get it. Go ahead and feel free to encourage them.

Example:

Question: "I found some l33t DEAGLE or airsoftatlanta.com is it a good gun??! k thx!"

Reply: "Sure, it's a great gun, enjoy your pistol!"

2nd reply from author: "Thanks dude!"

Ta da! Let the noobs figure it out themselves. They can do a WEE little bit of research before they come here making a fool of themselves. Anyone else want to follow this theory? Or maybe, instead of letting the noobs get on the blacklist at Customs, we could make a sticky in the General Section within the rules maybe? Since they don't like reading the FAQ's maybe they can ATLEAST look at the sticky names "Canadians cannot order overseas". Then maybe they'll be intelligent enough to read that sticky?

Yes there's this http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=3931 but maybe a thread name that will be more catchy?

We could wait until some newbie follow their advice and *doesn't* get their guns through customs?

Stickies wouldn't do the job.

I think the best way would be to sent and auto-generated PM to all new users like:

"Welcome to the community!
Before posting, read this carefully:
1-Guns cannot be ordered from outside Canada, they'll get seized
2-Do a search before posting
3-use correct grammar
4-the list goes on and on.
"

Well, the list shouldn't be too long, it would discourage most of them.

Restrict all newbie's to a newbie section. After 24 hours they are eligable to take a test. Fail the test, still only the newbie section access allowed, wait another 24 hours. Give them a link to the FAQ's so they can do their reading too, make the questions general.

ex:
Can guns be ordered from outside of Canada?

yes or no.
------------------------------------------------
Where can you use airsoft guns?
A) Public parks
b) front/backyard of house
C) away from the publics view, on airsoft/paintball fields.

such as those?

Kymoz, That could work but I would delete it cause I'm not a big fan of spam. Conrad that would work but you'd have to turn it into a trick question.

If some newb starts up a post like that who cares. If you want to spoon them do it, if not dont say anything. If you wanna tell them sounds like a good deal do it let them learn for themself.

The whole newb issue is something that'll always happen, I dont see it changing.

Thats a good idea. But who is going to take the time to do that certainly not. The auto PM thingy is really good. They will all get the message through that.

I like the idea of the PM thing but have the whole "cant order outside of canada" thing near the end...JUST to see if they will actually follow it. its not our fault if they dont bother to read 5-6 rules.

You're right about spam. I hate the "EnLargeYu0RManH00d" crap. But maybe if I get a message like "This is a message from the administrator of this site, read carefully or get banned of this site" I'll be more inclined to read it. Or maybe when the new user gets registered, the new PM would open automatically.

There once was a full Newbies section, with all the FAQ, stickies, and answers you could imagine.
Guess what? Newbies posted in it asking if they could buy guns from the US or Asia. Nobody bothered to read.

I like the idea of having a brief test for them to answer in order to get out of the "newbie section"

Maybe administer it via PM or email, and make multiple questions, that are different for each user (to avoid the new kids on the block from sharing answers)

Yes there is. It comes in a number of dosage sizes, ranging from .17 to .50 calibre. Use liberally as needed. Well, not really "Liberally", as Liberals want to take the cure away from you, but...you get my drift.

Newbs. Can't live with 'em, can't put them out of our misery.
