CA M249 Para battery solutions? Gen 2 better?
Hey guys, I just finished reading through a lot of really informative back threads about the CA M249 and - currently considering picking one up - I wanted to tap the collective for advice on a couple points left blank.
- On the Para, is it feasible to locate a large batt in the box mag? I've not had the luxury of seeing this for myself, but it I wouldn't flinch at coughing up space for even a 1000 rounds to stick a big batt in there. - Any other ideas for batt storage on the Para? - I've noticed the latest batch listed as being generation 2 containing some fixes as prescribed by users. Anyone tested one of these new editions? - 2nd last question: I *love* Star's idea of the material cartridge pouch mag/ battery holder. It looks good, is compact, and gives your batteries a home, but it says for 'Star M249 use only'. How different would this be in terms of possibly modding it for us on a CA? - last question. An accessory related question, Has anyone placed a string on dummy rounds on their mag? Just wondered if you wouldn't mind a quick run down on what, where you get and how. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

You can put a large in the box mag and no you don't have to lose any BB capacity.
Shold be able to get about a 1700-2000 AUg battery in the foregrip like the TOP m249 as well. STAR mag. Ofcourse this is airsoft pretty much anything can be modded. Probably need the end that plugs into the CA and add that to the spring of the STAR box and put some connectors on the wires for the battery power. Dummy rounds are easy. There is a clip on the box mag you clip one end on and the other end locks down under the feed tray. |

On Apoc's CA M249 (full stock), the stock got a severe crack in it a few game days ago, so he decided over the winter to have a wood stock made (he abuses his guns nasty, so if anyone if gonna find out the in's & out's of various guns, it'll be him & I....... myself being the lucky bastard that gets to fix all his stuff).
Anyways, we've decided to run the battery in the boxmag. It'll need to be wired p that way, with a connector and wires going into the gun. Easy for me to do (already installed the "Stalker Mod" that winds the boxmag automatically when the gun is fired, so already have wires running between the gun & the mag), but other would have to sort out the best components to use and how to best run the wires and allow disconnect. Incidentally, you can put a full 9.6V 3700mAh battery in the bottom of the boxmag (without mod) and still keep the 2500rd capacity. Keep in mind though, that if you put the battery in the boxmag, you lose the ability to use magazines, unless you put a smaller battery pack in the foregrip, and incorporate a switch to toggle between box mag (main battery) and regular mags (small backup battery.) The rest of your questions I can't answer, but about the belt of dummy rounds, you can 'clip' the first round onto the assembly that the real SAW uses to feed the ammo, but not sure about attaching to the boxmag. Cool look though, and will cover the spring tube that feeds the BBs into the gun. |

intriguing, but it was not so....
After some research I've found:
There are no changes to the M249s. As before - the Para and MkII use the same internals and are identical except for the stock and outerbarrel. There is no "gen 2" changes to the guns. But worry not - the guns ROCK as they are. I've just passed the 80k rounds mark with 380-450fps spring rate (depends on the venue) and its still rocking and rolling.

When you say Star mag Blasty, do you mean that Star ammo pouch thats available for the Star M249? That thing looked great - best of both worlds, compact, high capacity and battery tote. What would you forsee needing to be done to the mag bag to make it work for the CA?

Putting the normal TOP/CA end on it to plug into the magwell. Shouldn't be that hard

Nice. I've been flirting with the idea of buying the CA Para, but haven't thus far taken the plunge. It would be nice to know it would work for sure, yet I suppose if you want something enough, you just go ahead and get and make it work ;0) I probably will order a Star mag instead of taking the box mag with the Para at time of purchase. In the meant time, if anyone else happens to verify the ease of this mod, post up
