Custom kydex all the way, it's only slightly more expensive then a regular holster yet it will perform a million times better in my personal opinion. The main issue I find with regular holsters is way they hang off your body/belt. Usually it's some attachment mechanism that is then connected to the holster so it can force the pistol further away from your body. My Fobus holster had a nasty habit of keeping the pistol pointed "into" my thigh, not cool. A custom kydex has the attachments built right into the holster so they conform to your body a lot better.

When I had one I used a simple IMI one I got off ebay; was around $35 shipped or so?

I have a fobus, works well. Paddle style, you can tuck in waistband, with or without belt.
