Help with picking an AEG

Hey all,

Im looking into getting an AEG that is Stanag compatible.... I primarily run nothing but GBBRs so I am fairly clueless when it comes to AEG's.

Now... I dont REALLLLLLY want a m4, but am looking for something a bit different...but I want something that will be reliable and shoot white laser beams. What i've figured so far are:

- Masada/ACR (Magpul PTS, A&K, G&P)
- L85/L86 variants (ICS, G&G, Army, ARES)
- UAR (APS)
- TAR-21 (ARES, S&T)
- F2000 (G&G/Cybergun)

I just need help identifying which gun(s) are good, which brand is the best to go with, and if there are other alternatives. Price really isnt an issue, but I don't want a $2000 princess gun, as it will be used in cold weather at milsim events potentially (hence Stanag and sharing mags).

That's only your choices that are top tier, rest you listed is what it is.

ICS makes a nice l85, but yeah... If you want any gun to shoot lasers your going to have to drop a bit for anything close to a gbbr trigger response.

I hate m4's. And they come out with like 12 news m4's every damn year.

Isnt there atleast ONE NON m4 that takes stanag mags that is good and can be upgraded to be amazing?

Anything that uses a v2 GB(m4) you can, same with v3 (ak). I don't know much of the AEG brands so someone can cover for me, but you'd have to spend like 300-500 to have some gucci fast gun like EOD Steve or Pesto builds ontop. IMO gbb is ideal cause when you add it all up it's all the same...

That being said, do you need a high ROF gun? Probably not

So basically my goto is a VFC m4.... upon looking that up on google....there's quite a few models....and gens.

What should I be looking for? I heard some have mosfets and such in them as well.... TA literally has an entire pa ge of multiple different versions...

Cross off UAR (APS) from your list and the ARES. Heard some really bad things about those two brands and experienced a nightmare fixing the first one.

The PTS masada has been discontinued but it is the best quality aeg on your list. I'd highly recommend it personally.

The FN2000 I have heard some good things about but they are very expensive as well.

You could always get an AK or a G36 and try to find a stanag mag adapter on the market for it. They don't always work because of cross-brand incompatibilities for each model variant.

g36 with adapter? scar-l? everything else that's not an m4 kinda sucks. (l85, UAR, tar, f2000, all are a pain with the pushrods and shoddy quality)
any way you go, stealth/Steve or lk can build you something killer awesome.

Nooooo, don't get a G36 with an adapter... They feel all wrong, especially compared to the stock mags.

Good suggestion with a VFC Scar-L though. Take a look at that Daishi. That's probably your best bet.

I actually had a vfc scar l before. It was nothing but problems...and my main platform is a GBBR Scar L so....lol

I'm looking at the vfc m4's...but theres just so many different versions and mods...I'm not sure which one is the "good" one to get...which one(s) have the mosfets installed ect. If anyone can take a look at either T.A or A.D or some Canadian retailer....that would be greatly appreciated.

I'm running an ICS L85, and really like it. Very solid construction, very much not an M4, and snappy to shoot.

Upper Canada tactical had the cheapest vr16 vfc for sale. Just get the base rails and buy an aftermarket.. Granted you don't get nice trades.

+1 for LCT AKs. (Real Sword 56-2 if you can find one).

Stanag is becuase other people are using thise mags. Need to be able to trade with them.

And Id only be using an AEG for cold weather since applying hot packs to my mags isnt viable lol.

I could always daytona a gun....but I can only reason a garden hose for a machine gun.

VFC416, much sexyer than a standard AR IMO especially when done with the correct stock like the VFC.
