TM GBB + Propane
Hey I was looking at buying a TM GBB (the tactical master), there's a used one being sold for 100$ and it would be nice to have a blowback gun to go with my mk23. Just wondering if it is okay to use propane with this gun stock or if upgrades would be required to keep the extra power from busting the slide or other stuff. If I can't use propane I won't bother. And if not, are there any GBB guns that can take propane stock?

in theory no plastic slide is meant to handle propane in the long run. with that being said, i have read that there is a high success rate of marui guns running on propane with no issues whatsoever.

Well I've had one for about 5 years (picked one up when they first came out, ~1999-2000) and from what I've seen and heard from other users I'd avoid propane on it under normal conditions; the slide will crack. The exception to this is in cold weather, when other guns are performing miserably or even failing to cycle, I've gotten some use of the Tac Master on green gas (because of the cold, the pressure is in the same range as duster at that point... maybe lower, if its really cold).
The thing with the Tac Master is the stock recoil spring is really weak. Gives you great gas mileage on duster (~3 mags/fill), but it's pretty light blowback with duster and when you switch to green, the spring isn't eating up much power, so the slide takes a hard knock with every shot. I've heard several accounts of the Zeke metal slides breaking with green gas, too (back in the Airsoft Zone days). Although I think that was partly due to poor metal being used. What I HAVE been doing over the years (with no adverse effect so far) is mixing duster and green. Roughly 4-5 seconds of duster and a 1 second blast of green on top. Generates a more satisfying blowback, doesnt seem to harm anything, but the cost is lowered gas efficiency (about 1.5 mags/fill). As for running propane stock, I think currently the best bet is the all metal KJWs; they arent much more expensive than the average GBB, all metal, and will run propane without problems. (one of the Berettas is pretty close to the Tac Master, btw, minus the Hogue Grips which you could always add on after) Some Taiwanese guns (plastic) will also run green gas, since they're designed for it... a glaring example are the old Omega M93Rs; they barely cycled on duster.

Man... I don't even know why people still ask this without looking around first.
I haven't heard of anyone cracking a TM slide on propane in SO LONG. Nobody I know has ever done it, and the only slide I've ever actually seen crack was an ALUMINUM slide on an upgraded western arms gun (!!! - go figure) I claim it's a myth. (keep reading before you get all hyperactive ) While it will put more wear on your gun, and the lifespan will decrease, I still haven't heard anyone provide evidence that the decrease is notable enough to make the excellent performance provided by propane not worthwhile (this is referring to TM guns. I wouldn't use propane in a stock WA pistol for too long...) |
