It's not that it's cheap, and it is rated for it, but there is quite a large gap between your face and the shield, it's not a good idea to try and use this for airsoft, the gap would be too large and as we all know ricochet's happen.

Rule wise - If it is properly rated (not china fake) and the games rules do not specify full seal, that I don't see an issue with it. It would be your judgement call on weather the gap is too much for you or not.

If this is to mitigate fogging while having facepro, this will definitely not work well at all though. It is going to be fog city once you start doing anything more than a brisk walk. Gonna capture all that moisture.

Something like that would be use for wood turning, not airsoft.

lol... there's no safety rating.

So what classifies as airborne debris? particulate that probably weighs less than a BB, smaller than a bb and has less inertia so would be stopped by thin plastic.

A directed projectile with 1.5J-3J of energy would probably go right through it.

The large visors are typically Z87.1 and NOT Z87.1+, so you have to check and make sure.
Main issue is it will leave big gaps around your face and fog like crazy

read somewhere that z87.1 (minimum rating) is only rated for a single 1 J impact.

z87.1+ covers higher J and multiple impacts.

It doesn't outright say it from what I recall, but the test was a ball bearing dropped from a certain height. The rating mentions something about maximum amount the material is allowed to deflect indwards, also the penetration resistance of the object. I think I did a calculation on the weight and height of the object being dropped and it equated to about 1J.

I dont' think I was able to find any literature regarding the drop test on 87.1+ but it mentioned that part of that standard was multiple impact.

I believe the standards are a 1/4 inch steel bearing shot at 200 FPS towards the centre of the lenses. I don't have an OH&S/CSA standards book with me but I do recall something similar to what I described above. I'll see if I can find a pdf of it.

EDIT: Here, although I do believe the high velocity impact is more pertinent to us than the drop ball test here.

Below is a summary of the tests and requirements for safety spectacles, goggle and face shields. Please note that the original document is 47 pages long, and it contains a lot of detailed information. This summary is not claimed to be complete.

High Velocity Impact

Face shields shall be capable of resisting impact from a 6.35 mm (1/4 in) diameter steel ball traveling at a velocity of 91.44 mps (300 fps).

Goggles shall be capable of resisting impact from a 6.35 mm (1/4 in) diameter steel ball traveling at a velocity of 76.2 mps (250 fps).

Spectacles shall be capable of resisting impact from a 6.35 mm (1/4 in) diameter steel ball traveling at a velocity of 45.7 mps (150 fps).

For sample size of 6, no failure may occur (Z87.1-2003 required 20).

that was it. yeah, if someone better at math than me could look at the specs and work it out, I think it would go a long way to help determining what the minimum safety rating should be. I had my math double checked by someone but neither of us were confident if we were doing it right or not.

The thing that scared me was single impact.

Thanks for all the replies guy. At this point i have a set of Revision locust asian cut goggles with a fan and they work well. no fogging issues for me, however the inside of the lenses have major condensation due to me sweating. This face mask i posted would seem to be a good fix as the lenses themselves do not touch your skin as per what i have read on amazon reviews.

The Gap between your face and that shield is not a huge concern for me as I would still wear some sort of shooting glasses or maybe even guard dog dust buster 4. By the way anyone try those?

yeah i wasn't asking if it worked well. i was asking if it was game legal in Canada.
