Eye Dominance
Just getting into airsoft, bought a gun, picked it up aimed it and discovered I'm left eye dominant and right handed.
If you're unfamiliar with what this means, from what I've gathered: My left eye is what does most of my peeping, but since I'm right handed and my right eye looks down the sight, it's waaaayyy off since my left eye is the one tracking objects. Has anyone dealt with this? What's the easiest way to get around this? Learn to shoot with my left? Would a different sight further down the scope make it easier for me to aim accurately? Eye exercises? Fire from the hip shirtless while screaming obscenities? |

So add a scope riser, shoot from the right, and aim with the left eye?

I am cross dominate as well (the same as you left eye dominance/right handed) and I shoot left handed with my left eye. It feels more natural once you handle your gun more.
I also suggest practice with your right hand/eye by closing your left eye when shooting. It is useful to learn to shoot both left and right because you can switch and not overexpose yourself around a corner in a CQB environment. Last edited by Fenrir92; December 16th, 2014 at 14:48.. |

I'm the same way but I wasn't born that way. I had eye damage to my right eye when I was in college and had a patch on it for 2 months. In that time I became left eye dominant and have been ever since.
What I do is use a red dot with both eyes open. At that point it doesn't really matter which eye is dominant. |

I have that exact problem
- I shoot left handed, finding a gun ambidextrous (the KWA MP7 is) helps with that problem

I'm cross eye dominant also. It's never caused me an second of concern shooting.
With a pistol I shoot Quell Stance both eyes open. With a rifle with irons or a magnifying optic I shoot with my left eye closed and right picking up the sight picture. With a red dot/holo sight I shoot with both eyes open. In all cases I use my dominate hand on the trigger except for occasional barricade shooting etc. You can also check out the Bindon Aiming Concept. That's both eyes open with a magnifying optic.

How much sand CAN you fit in your vagina!?

I was the same way, pre surgery anyways, and it never caused me issues. Contact lenses can help if your vision is bad, but just because one eye is a little better than the other is neither here nor there.

Thanks everyone for the quick replies!
Sounds like a red dot might help quite a bit, and aiming with both eyes open. Also learning to hold from the left and right. Left doesn't feel too bad, but it is still a bit odd since it's my off hand. And I'll try learning to close my left eye (forgot to mention: I can't close my left eye just by itself). |

Practice with a blinder. Best ones come from tearing up a cigarette package.

I'm cross eye dominant also.
Practice with both eyes open and shooting from both left and right handed positions is really the best way to over come this and is recommended for those that aren't cross eye dominant as well.

AR =/= Assault rifle, contrary to what the media tells you.
Best thing you can do is practice with whatever platform you choose. After years of playing I've gotten proficient at shooting a rifle with my weak hand. Makes you a smaller target when using corners for cover. |

I'm right handed and left eye dominant - using an AK helps with this a lot as the rear sight is very far forward and I can get a good cheek weld with most masks/goggles
If you're using an AR, I'd suggest as others have said, a scope or rail riser.
