Real Steel Comm's Questions (Sordin/Comtac - Spoon feed may be required)
Hey everyone. I'm looking for a real steel comms set up. I love the Sordin/Comtac idea.
I understand Sordins can be a bit better on the wallet? I currently have a Wouxun radio, and use replica Comtacs, but I want to upgrade. If I were to go sown the Sordin route, which ones are the best, which PTT's work with them and will work with a Wouxun Radio (Kenwood Pins)? I need Ideas/help on affordable real steel setups! Thanks for any assistance. Thanks!

1) Buy MSA Sordins on Ebay ($200-$250)
2) Ship to SRS Tactical to change mic and plug ($100) 3) Buy Nexus PTT and gel earmuff seals from SRS Tactical ($200) 4) Enjoy. All said and done it cost me about $600 total to get the Sordins, ship them out to be modified to work with consumer radios, get the PTT and have it all shipped to my door. Also, sometimes the Sordins on ebay come with shooting glasses or goggles, which you can then sell to recoup a little of your investment. Also, SRS Tactical are super helpful, and very quick to reply to any questions. I told them I was in a hurry for mine, I shipped it on a Monday, they got it on Tuesday, worked on it, shipped it back that same day, and I had it back in my hands on Wednesday. Here's some places to get you started: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/MSA-SORDIN-75...2ef4848&_uhb=1 http://www.ebay.ca/itm/NEW-MSA-Sordi...f95fb43&_uhb=1 SRS Tactical will have to change the plugs on those to TP120, to work with the Nexus U94 PTT's they sell, and you tell them what kind of radio you have so they give you the appropriate plug. You can also ship them your radio with your Sordin's so they can test and make sure it all works with your specific radio. Last edited by w1lp33; March 2nd, 2014 at 10:24.. |

Call Steve at SRS.
Our Sordins with Peltor boom mics and PTT cost about $750. You can see mine in the Helmet thread

I will echo what everyone else has said, SRS is the best place for what you are trying to do.
I bought Sordins from Ebay and sent them to SRS to be modified, they also modified a U94 PTT to work with my Motorola XTS2500. They were extremely helpful, speedy, and professional.
