AEG Suggestions

Hey there id like to start off by saying sorry if this is viewed as a dumb thread (this is my first post after years of reading!).

Anyways, I was curious if some experts here could suggest a solid AEG to be used as my first project gun to start tinkering with. I usually stick to M14/FAL models and was looking to find something a little bit smaller (EBR gets a tad bit heavy after awhile ). I'm not looking to spend much more than 400 for the rifle itself as i just paid tuition/ So if anyone has some suggestions for a reliable/ (relatively easily) upgradable platform that would be greatly appreciated. I'm also in the process of being age verified so if its better to hold off until i have access to the classified thats fine just wanna be ready for the warmer weather whenever it finally comes .

Was thinking about trying to build a C7 or C8 since ive never owned an M4/16 and they seem so easily available. I was looking into the g&g toptech series and KA's for starters.

thanks!

Edit: Any thoughts on quality ar's in the 350-400 range? possibly pm me with links
