Map editor app for tactical OP?

Hi
I was wondering if there any software or app, to edit map, the tactical way, with the military symbols.

I already do this on "Paint" but with limited results.

Thanks

Did you want to do this on the field or at home?

Look up QuantumGIS (QGIS) or GRASS for a free app, otherwise ArcGIS is more or less the industry standard for map editing.

Note, there is a pretty high learning curve with these apps but if you're just inserting blocks/symbols into a premade map it shouldn't be too hard.

I'd say if you have a GeoTIFF or other georeferenced image all you need to do is insert it into your map and insert blocks (or whatever symbols you want), center your viewport onto the map and print to pdf. Sounds complicated but it's not.

BTW, if you need imagery or maps you should be able to get some free from the NRCAN geogratis site but it probably won't be very high res.

A learning curve and a couple hundred or thousand dollar purchase...

To be fair QGIS and GRASS are both FOSS, so they are legitimate options. I'm just more familiar with Arc personally (although I'm getting into learning to use the FOSS alternatives to expand my skillset).
