I recently purchased a TM Hi-Capa and am enjoying it, but am considering metal upgrades. The price of this Wei-Tech inclusive of metal makes upgrading the TM seem like a bad idea... what advantages or disadvantages are there between these two units stock?

Ok, basically answered my own question, but I thought I'd share.
First, here is a detailed review of the Wei-Tech 5.1, including mention of a few construction issues: http://www.airsplat.com/hicapa.htm Then I took photos similar to the ones found in the above review to detail the difference. The problems mentioned in the review regarding the Wie-T are not found in the TM. Inner barrel fit is snug; hammer is well crafted, cast and finished; the dual safety is properly balanced and works correctly from either side. - note the metal beaver tail rear safety, metal dual safety, hammer, lower receiver, bomars. Theres lots of metal even on the stock TM. Metal mag release, slide catch, user mountable lower rail and the guide rod, along with much of the internal structure make for a very solid feel. Still, only half the slide action is metal on a stock TM Hi Capa and it sounds that way - half metal, though chunky nonetheless. From the clues here and with other cloned guns, it seems the Japanese made items gives a higher degree of precision. Is more metal worth the trade-off of less precise manufacturing specs? I suppose that varies by user. |

From what I've seen of the WE Hi-Capas, I've also noticed that the fit and finish are not equivalent to that of the Marui.
Personally, I'd rather drop the extra coin on the Marui and upgrade it to full metal. It looks better in the end, feels better... and shoots better as the outer barrel does not wobble around as much. I never got to shoot the WE I handled, but looking at that airsplat.com review, the groupings @ 5m & 10m shown in the photos aren't very impressive at all. At 22 feet, my (tuned) Hi-Capa is capable of 2" groupings Don't get me wrong, the WE isn't garbage. As a Taiwanese gun, it's among the best in it's league and as a straight out-of-the box gun, it's a greater performer for a great price. |

i owned one for a short period of time and i have to say i'm not impressed. the gun is built around the marui internals which are for pushing a light slide at extreme speed. what they did was use the same internals with a lead alloy slide. sure it feels nice, but the thing is ridiculously heavy and recoil is very forceful, but too sluggish. also, if you fire quickly the cooldown is so strong there's just about no way you can finish the mag before running out of gas. there are small tricks you can use to fix this issue (trim the reed valve spring) but they dont obliterate the problem.
accuracy however was good because it's modeled after the tm style hopup, maybe not crafted as well but damn effective compared to the old WA style hop. since i've got all of airsoft innovation's stock at my house, i got to take a look at some of the metal slides available for the hicapa and lord god jesus are they sweet. milled aluminium kicks cast lead alloy's ass any day. plus they have trades :P and the tm hicapa doesnt have that silly shiny sticker on the grip.

Just curious, how does this compare to the KJ Para in terms of construction and quality? These look pretty damn good, and i'm interested getting one
The KJ Para i have fires quite reliably, and i havent had any issues with gas blowing out of the mags and such under propane.... this firing CO2 i'd imagine the build would have to be a bit tougher to sustain the higher pressure and such. Only drawback with the higher pressure gas is that these are not suitable for indoor Also curious about interchanging of certain parts with others, this being a clone of the Marui HiCapa, maybe swapping out some stuff with after market ones made for the Marui to take advantage of better quality where possible.... Got any of these Tru? |

i can hit a 3/4" steel rod driven into our field at 30 feet distance from our mesh barrier about %50 of the time 15/31 shots with the w.e. can't do that with my ksc g19 or usp compact.

I'd buy this gun just because it's nice and metal. I'll never buy a TM GBB or WA unless they are my only choice for a gun. As nice as they may look, they are still just plastic and fo rme, that just blows all the pride right out of the water.
They say the slide has lead in this gun? Can I draw with it too? haha |

I like mine, I used it in a game on saturday and it performed well, although its true that it doesnt finish off a full mag it eats gas.
But it does hold 30 rds so the 2 or 3 left in is alright with me for the fun value and the price value. |

I had a chance to test a friend's WE Hi-Capa out and I found the slide/frame fit to be exceptional. There was VERY little slide wobble on the one I had. Accuracy was also very good. I definately thought it was on par with the TM Hi-Capa in that regard. Taking it apart, the internals are all modelled after the TM Hi-Capa to a high degree. I was very impressed with the gun when I had it and I would have bought one of my own if i didn't already have a TM Hi-Capa. The kick on it was surprisingly satisfying given the fact that the weight of the slide was so heavy. It's definately not as snappy as my TM Hi-Capa but still very beefy nonetheless. This gun was definately one of the heaviest guns I've handled...
And to whomever quoted the gun as shooting 400 fps must have been shooting from the sun. I chrono'ed mine at around 310 fps indoors. Temperature was probably about 15 celsius. |
