G&G GR-25 Current Status and Issues
Ok, trying this again. I just bought the GR25 last night, and I'm fairly impressed with it, despite its length it's not too heavy. However, there are some things that concerns me.
1) the upper receiver wobbles on the lower, is this just how it is or is it not installed correctly? It's not too bad but it is a little annoying because I can feel it shifting side to side as I hold it, and it makes a small sound as it does so. 2) The plastic rail covers are, in my opinion, not the greatest. I don't know if it's because the people who I bought it from (company will remain nameless ya-da ya-da ya-da) may have used them too much or whatever, but they don't really lock into place. Instead, they slide and it's damaging the finish on the rails. I had to wrap some tape at the base of the RIS around them to keep them in place. 3) The dust cover does not stay closed for very long. Even if I'm not touching the gun, the dust cover eventually just snaps open. It's a little annoying. I know it'll be open after adjusting the hop-up but it should have a better seal. 4) Finishing: I noticed several points, particularly on the RIS, that have blemishes. There are four sections that are exactly opposite each other that seem to have 'bubbled' when the anodizing coat was applied. Not a big deal, but since there are numerous flaws like that throughout the body, it doesn't really fit a "high end rifle suited for experienced users" and that cost an arm and a leg to purchase. 5) I can't remove the forward sight block to slide my bipod adapter into the RIS. It fits on the side rails so I know it'll work, however due to a pressure pin inside the block I can't seem to punch out, I can't get it removed. 6) The pistol grip has pointed corners right under the trigger guard, unless I wear my gloves they actually hurt my hand holding it. I'll have to swap it but since it has the motor inside, I don't know what kind of grip to get. I'd like the ergonomic grip but not sure what kind is better for this scenario. 7) The magazines are $30 bucks each for 50 rounds?! What the hell G&G! :banghead: 8) The barrel is just a plain tube. It looks silly as is, so the suppressor will have to cover it all the time since it doesn't sport that flashy barrel and muzzle combo others have. /end rant/ Aside from that, I actually really love the rifle. I plan on switching a few internal parts after I see how it performs on the 18th, and doing a custom logo painted on the side mag well. If anyone has suggestions related to anything I posted above, feel free to drop a reply. Thanks all. ~Reaver |

1) G&P or RA-Tech Magic Pin if you want to fix it properly. or tape if you don't.
2) Get new covers 3) Known issue on many ARs. Get a new dust cover. You'll have to remove the rail system to install it. 4) Did you buy mail-order? Was it from a reputable dealer? Also, you got a G&G, so I'm not sure what else to say beyond that. (A&K would not have been better) 5) Get a proper punchset and punch out the pin holding the gas block. 6) Any AEG grip will work as a replacement, or dremel/file the sharp edges 7) Should have done your research on magazines before buying 8) Get a shorter inner barrel. Anything over 455mm is actually LESS accurate. What length should you get? use a tapemeasure. Last edited by Stealth; August 7th, 2013 at 10:35.. |

I purchased it from Flagswipe, so it's a known dealer. And I wasn't planning on spending so much for it, but didn't want to be spending more for the G&P model. As for the mags, I didn't expect them to be that much, but whatever, I have two for now it'll do. And there are various upgrades I'm thinking of purchasing for it, but I want to see how it performs stock. Thanks for the info though, I'll keep that in mind.

For point number 4, talk to G&G.

I kinda knew you were going to pick on the externals. So you can see the differences now. You didn't want VFC because of the higher price, but you get great externals from VFC.
If the blemishes are really bad, get the gun exchanged asap! G&G is not bad, but it should not be terrible as you are describing it. The trigger guard and grips are an easy fix. The stock ones all suck, I upgraded all my M4's and DMRs to Magpul. The stock guard will cut your fingers in time. The Magpul is Very very comfy. http://airsoftdepot.ca/catalog/produ...roducts_id=414 http://airsoftdepot.ca/catalog/produ...roducts_id=911 The dust cover is also an issue on my VFC, but that is also an easy fix. It is the thin metal plate that has a tiny bend on the inside for the catch on the gear box. You can bent it slightly more so it can catch better. Also the catch on the gear box is pot metal and wear out, that is normal. Just replace it. Last edited by SuperHog; August 7th, 2013 at 12:01.. |

#2 That could be solved with new rail covers or; the rail, or the rail covers are made off-spec. That is part and parcel with buying "copy/clone" products including rail systems etc. If you want it to fit like a real one would, buy a real rail system and real rail covers. Even then you may find the same problems. Also different style rail covers / panels will fit differently
#4 Again part and parcel with "airsoft" quality. Things like that are too be expected IMO from G&G #6 If you are getting cut on the little space between the trigger guard and the pistol grip that is a complaint common from real guns. The "trigger gap" can be fixed with a replacement trigger guard or by replacing the grip or with sandpaper and a file. #3 When firing on a real gun the dust cover opens. Having it "open" while playing would look the part. If it annoys you see #2 post |

Hey if I'm spending that kind of money I expect good finish lol especially since I used to work in a custom machine shop building parts for military vehicles etc. So I know quality of anodized parts after dealing with them. I don't mind the external flaws, since their minor, but the grip is something that is a little uncomfortable, even to my hands. But, like I said, I'll make do until after the 18th so I can see how it performs. Thanks guys!
Since I'll be playing at Flagswipe (if anyone has played there recently and reads this lol) so i'm expecting to spend some time in the forested zones and try to pick of some players at a decent range. Any suggestions for a new designated marksman? I'm fond of ranged combat but it'll be my first true experience as a DM. As for the above post regarding the dust cover, it's not annoying that it is open, I know that the shell would be ejected from there on real steel and thus it would normally be open. What is annoying, however, is when I close it for storage and the dust cover flings back out at the smallest touch. Last edited by Reaver_RRTS; August 7th, 2013 at 12:54.. |

I'm going to peel off the bandaid here and just tell you straight up that there's most likely going to be somebody there with an SBR outranging you.

Um being a stock rifle, I wouldn't be surprised that I'm being out-ranged by other guns. If I wanted extreme range, I would have spent the money on fixing my G&G G96 bolt action gas sniper, but I didn't want to be at 'extreme range'. My intended engagement distance is between 100 and 250 feet. MAYBE 300 if I really want to push it after I spend some time working with the rifle and getting to know its quirks. Although, what is an 'SBR'? Never heard that term before.

Although you don't like SCARs if you hand seen a VFC SSR you would have bought one. The receiver is a one piece cnc alum and hard anodized whereas your SR25 is painted pot metal. Also my SSR is completely and I reach beyond 250 ft easily.
The bolt catch / hop up cover is better than any on the SR25. When you release it the sound is amazing. Last edited by SuperHog; August 7th, 2013 at 16:20.. |

Never liked the SCAR series rifles lol no matter how nice they look I'd never buy one. Aaaand you kinda ruined the grandeur of me getting the SR25 lol.... Now I feel like it's just a crappy gun.

I have also have a G&G and G&P. G&P costs more than a G&P, but you budget for the G&G which still a good gun and fully upgradeable.
I did say hold them all before you buy. If the SR25 hand bad blemishes on it , why did you hand over your money? We told you VFC and G&P had better exterior but you said too expensive . I almost bought the new WE Katana but didn't like the exterior of it . That was the deal breaker. Last edited by SuperHog; August 7th, 2013 at 18:09.. |

The blemishes are external, and minor, something I can live with. Hell, the G&G G96 had raised seams along the entire length of the body, but I sanded them down. It's not a major deal, and it wasn't enough for me to turn away. I'm not going to see them when I use it, I only noticed it after I attempted to remove the RIS (which i couldn't figure out how to do -_-) And no one had the A&K model or I would have bought that one since it's cheaper on my budget. Regardless I'm still happy with it I just figured I'd mention it and see if others had the same on theirs.
