NVD Gen2 wich one (hard choice)
Hi every Night vision lover! I'm here to have some advice from you before purchasing something expensive to fit with my gear.
I have now a Yukon Gen1 and I love night game, but there is a problem when you have to use a IR illuminator, so I'm looking to upgrade for a gen2 Before talking, my budget is about 2 000$ (maybe more if it's a huge deal, but I'll stay reasonable in my depense). I will need a headmount (maybe helmet mount) that I prefer it'will fit in the 2000$ budget. I have a minimum of specs looking to (maybe other thing I don't think now) -Bright auto cut-off (to protect the tube at this price) -Auto ajuste bright control I was looking for armasight (like the Sirius looks to be the cheaper Gen2 of the brand) and GSCI for now, if you have some advice or other brand let me know!!! Or if you have some website where they have good stuff, let me know I know scoutbasecamp and some other that they can ship into Canada for sure. The main question is about, wich model, feedback, etc. to help me in my choice. I see a lot, all have same settings, but differents prices, I'm a little bit lost, but I want to see in the darkest dark (where gen1 can't see without IR) so I want a good quality gen2, at a descent price.

Even the *darkest dark* Gen 2 and Gen 3's need IR/Light Source, just not as much as Gen 1 I guess...
The biggest difference imo between Gen 2's would be light gain and resolution (usually much worse than even Gen 1's, but it makes up for it in other things) though... I personally got a D300 MS for $1515 after duties, taxes, shipping, and insurance from the states, which might be a good option? (A bit heavy, and I guess I would prefer better resolution, but the D300 HP is around $1000 more, so up to you) Basically you should have 400-500 left though to buy helmet, and mounts... Just enough for cheap USGI mount system $100-$200, and then $200-$300 left to invest in your helmet/batteries/sacrificial lenses/counterweights/storage system on your gear for the NVG/IR Lights/IR Lasers/IR Illuminators as well as shipping costs . Otherwise those nice Wilcox mounting systems will run you around $400-$600 alone, and if you can even find someone selling them outside of the US. Last edited by kaiu; July 29th, 2013 at 17:25.. |
