UNCompany Review
Just want to give a brief story about my experience with these guys. I'm still new to airsoft, and I was in Hong Kong for a few weeks for vacation. Figured I'd pick up some WE M4 GBB mags as they were much cheaper and easier to find.
Since I lived in Wan Chai, I figured I'd check out UNCompany. I bought 5 mags there, and I asked them 2 times if they were Gen2 mags, the gentlemen there said yes. I'm still a newb, so I took his word for it, and went home after buying them. Before I left HK, I checked the mags to see if they had any gas left in it, and they were still good. So i emptied the gas out before putting it in my luggage. I arrive home, and give the 5 I bought to a fellow member of ASC, and he get's home telling me 3 of the 5 I bought were Gen1 >:C So...these guys at UNCompany are not honest at all...and I'd advise caution when purchasing through them. Being opened for so many years, and this is how they treat new customers? I'm very disappointed.

That's not cool at all.
It's been a year since the Gen2 mags were introduced by WE. I'm surprised any retailer still has them in stock.

They may have told you that it was Gen 2 to clear all the Gen 1. Or its possible that they got it mixed up and had Gen 1 mixed in with the Gen 2. Either way, you should have checked it while you were at the shop. Don't know if you would have known the difference or what to look for.

For those who don't know, Gen2 WE magazines have a fairly large screw located right in the middle of their base. You'd have to slide off the baseplate to see whether its there or not. The Gen2 packaging is not significantly different from the original. I think they added a coloured dot, or something like that, on the box to distinguish the two types.

Yes, the easiest way to know if it's Gen2 is the large black screw at the bottom. Just slide off the base plate and you'll see it. If you see a tiny little screw to one side, then it's a Gen1.

At the time I didn't know. Figured UN having been open for so long should have a decent rep. I guess not! I also tried looking before hand on how to check if its a gen1 or gen2. Couldn't find any info, or im just really bad at searching lol. Should have posted here beforehand :'(

The only shop I have had a good service experience in Hong Kong in terms of being knowledgable, helpful and friendly to a point has been Ehobbyasia.
They have very knowledgable staff, even though they are not part of the Mong Kong gun street strip, they are worth the small journey on the MTR and still very easy to find. The bonus with them is language, a number of their staff have very good English capabilities. UN has always been a fairly friendly experience for me, but shop staff knowledge/service is sometimes additionally burdened and limited by language barrier. I have only on occasion not gotten just what i wanted, and most of those experiences had to do with simple faulty product(UN has always been excellent with correction manufacturer defect, in my case). But they have for the most a very Hong Kong attitude, they are there to sell, not really provide a lot of customer support and service. They are not there to wait on you per say. But they will gladly suggest and offer advice even with language barriers. I would not say they would have intentionally cheated you as that is not their character(I have had a lot of dealings with them), and I trust between possible error and language issues they probably made a simple honest mistake. |

I bought a WE 416 there before the price drop in Canada and everything was fine. Shipped as requested with a nice letter (that was in decent English), and all the needed details for the CBSA.
Just a data point. |
