hanging guns on the wall

hey all.
My armoury is getting prety damn big i figure i can clear up some floor/under the bed space by hanging my toys on the wall.
What is the best way to do it?
Im thinking two options.
One is that white board with all the holes in it like you see in stores thae have thos metal "pegs" or "hooks" that have three points on the end that go into the holes on the board.
Seccond is the board that has the slots that run end to end.
Baisically same as above with the metal hook things that go into the slots.
Im kind of leaning towards fhe first option as that settup allows more options for placing the hooks to get the guns to sit level where the slotted board you can only place them every few inches on the up and down direction.
Any thoughts.
Is one stronger then the other?
For install im gonna put three 1x4's on the wall with toggle bolts then screw the board onto that.
I figure i can likely get both at the home depot?
What do you think, anyone done this or have any other options or tips?

Peg board is good but depending on thickness there is a chance, over time, that a heavier gun could pull the hanger down and break the peg board.
Slat board (slotted from end to end) is a little stronger, but more expensive. There are two types, one with just the mdf and the other has a metal strip through each slot. The board and hangers and much more expensive then peg board.
If you decide to go with peg board, use 1x2s and anchor into the studs behind the drywall. Butterfly anchors have a chance to pull through the drywall if there is too much weight on them. You'd want the board to be anchored to structure as opposed to finish material. If you decide slat board then you can anchor that directly to the wall. When you anchor, find the stud spacing, and either screw through the face of the board or through the slot, depending on how you want it to look.
Make sure to use screws that fasten at least 2/3 of the screw length into the stud behind.
If you plan on painting it, make sure to give it a light sanding so the paint adheres to the board.

yup thats good info, i was kinda worried about the strength of tue board.
i still am gonna have to use toggle bolts tho as there are only a few studs on this wall in the basement (the previous owner did the reno himself i think.
im sure if i use 4 toggles on each board it will hold the ones i have we use for fire extinguishers they hod 85lb's each on 3/8th drywall so the combined strength sperad out over the wall like that should be strong enough.
im more worried bout the whole sheet of drywall commin off then the board/gun weight breakin through the drywall lol.
any more tips suggestions keep em commin, this will be my project next weekend lol

If you want fancy and elaborate... do that, sounds like its in a bedroom over a work shop?
Keep it simple, neat, repairable, and strong... Just go pick up some hangers that either self screw into the studs, or take screws, use long ones as stated, and have rubber coatings on them, wide and deep for support of your weapons.

I have the peg board and I have 23 airsoft rifles hanging up been up a year no problems I just use 3 hooks per gun. Hope that helps ya

I use gridwall in my office/store. It's not ugly like slat wall or peg board. Black, white, or silver. I use black.

You know what you need is some stupid fecking rope hanging in the corner. You never know what you're going to need it for but you'll always find a use for it.

Awesome guys thanks for all the tips.
I think im gonna just go with the peg board style its the most economical
and it will be sturdy the way im going to install it.
I like the grid wall but it would cost 3 times the ammount to buy it and i souldnt be able to make it as sturdy and still look clean without a bunch of extra work (painting and such)

Imo, "displaying" guns is a bad idea.

Not really "displaying" them other then for myself. Itll be in my bedroom
They are just layin around now mostly and are in my way cause they dont all fit under the bed/in the closet so its mostly for storage not so much fof display reasons. Dont really have any high end replicas that are worthy of display other then the AK i have commin they ard all plastic bodies most with no trades and all are field guns so they are skuffed up n such.
The only i guess "nice" ones would be the ak stag15 sith 12inch mfr on it and the gemtech oasis is prety slick lookin as i havent fielded it yet.
I definately wouldnt hang em up in the livingroom or near a window or somethin like that lol.

I use this stuff for my guns, measure the studs screw straight thru the holes works like a charm.
