Removing functional bolt catch Ares and VFC
Greetings.
First off, I'm not disabling the functional bolt catches on these guns, just asking how to remove them to get the mechbox out. Is it even necessary on the VFC? (doing a spring downgrade on the VFC and internal parts replacement on the ARES due to some stripped gears) The Ares is a M4 FF-M model. I'm looking to replace the currently broken bolt catch "button" so to speak and the fake catch is stuck in the rear position. How would I go about getting at this? (photos would be king. ) I ask these in the same thread as it appears they are very similar. The VFC E3 Warrior is brand spanking new so I'd rather -not- experiment before I dive in there. I am familiar with the more "standard" m4 take downs, just want to make sure I know how to do this portion to avoid wrecking something. Thanks in advance for assistance. My search-fu sucks and I only found vague references to how to do this. |

For the VFC all you need to do is push the front receiver retaining pin out (located in front of the front rail and above the magwell) and pull apart the upper and lower receivers. It should come apart very easily. You don't need to mess witht he bolt catch pieces.

I know on my VFC 416 The last thing do is I remove the arm from the mechbox that catches the bolt before pulling the mechbox out of the lower receiver.
Tilt the nose up and remove the screw to get it off.

I can't say. I have a Ares SR-25 but it's a bit bigger so I didn't have to pull the catch to get the mechbox out. Not sure if the smaller brother is as roomy.
