Level IIIa and IV SAPI plates - gee, I didn't realize they were that easy to get.

Yeah actually they're pretty "available", just really expensive. When I was working at the surplus we had a source for SPEAR BALCS armor and some other stuff... if my life depended on it, I would have gotten some, but its insanely expensive for airsofting (as in I'd rather get 2 new AEGs, a GBB and a repro BALCS armor instead). Some places in the US don't want to export SAPI plates, too.

Well I wouldn't say it's insanely expensive. You can get them for less than the price of an AEG if you really know what you are buying and where to look... Export is the biggest issue to get around.

Hey guys!

Yes, level IIIA vests and level IV SAPI plates are actually available and easy to get.
I just had to get this when I could as it was actually used by a SF Operator in the first gulf war, and is one of only 25 that were ever made. (So I was told)
The US army never adopted this vest because it was too expensive and they went with Point Blank instead.
I picked this up in Fort Knox a few months ago and I’m now debating to sell/trade it off to fund a new project.
Anyway I just wanted to share the pics with all you KIT GODS, and yes it has no real application for Airsoft but I know a lot of you guys on here like genuine issue kit and that’s why I wanted share the pics with you all.

That thing must weight a ton. I used to wear something similar (level III with 10x12 plates) every day for some time. It kills, especially during summer time.

It's not that bad. I used to work with a level IIIA and it was ok. Very hot during the day in summer, but still bareble. With the ceramic plate, I guess is a few grams more compared to the normal Trauma plates in the levelIIIA.

I'd like to get my hands on one like yours.
It say it's consealeble.... a level IIIA is barely conceileble.. this one must make you look like a fridge!!

I'll go find a particular brand, lvl IIIa was something like 2.9mm thick, lvl III was 3.2mm thick... Although, with all good things, comes a hefty price (literally).

A great collector piece, for sure. Impractical, maybe. But I'd have done the same if it fell in my lap I'm sure.
